What To Do About Rush Limbaugh

Want to rid the public airways of Rush Limbaugh? Go to the top.

File a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.

Next, contact his employer, who profits from Limbaugh’s perverted rants:

Mark Mays
CEO Clear Channel Communications

Phone: (210) 822-2828

And finally, keep contacting the advertisers who support the Rush Limbaugh Show. I am not listing them here because, as of press time, many have discontinued their sponsorship (Quicken Loans, Sleep Train Mattress Centers, Heart & Body Extract, Oreck Upright Vacuum Cleaners, Sleep Number Beds, AutoZone, Citrix Online — aka GoToMeeting.com, GoToMyPC.com) and more are bailing by the minute.

But you might want to express to the Mitt Romney campaign how weak and mealy-mouthed their candidate sounded today, when all he could find to disagree about with Limbaugh was not what Rush said but how he said it.

“I’ll just say this, which is, it’s not the language I would have used. I’m focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today, and that’s why I’m here talking about jobs and Ohio.”

Eating Their Own: Coulter Hates Jeb

I think, on closer examination, Jeb Bush would be the worst of all candidates to run. For one thing, we don’t need another Bush. That would be embarrassing to the Republican Party. He’s more pro amnesty for illegals than his brother was, more than Rick Perry was.

— Republican color commentator Ann Coulter, announcing she hates Jeb Bush and apparently wasn’t too fond of his big brother either. Could have fooled us.

Female Legislators Turn the Tables on Reproductive Rights Bills

RepublicansVaginaEven before Republican Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell’s “oops” moment — when he admitted that he had no clue how the mandatory ultrasound he originally backed “unconditionally” worked — women knew that most men don’t bother their pretty little heads with the details of contraception. Such lady business is just not theirs to contemplate.

So female legislators introduced a string of bills in state houses intended to help them “get it.”

O.K. Republican Taliban guys, we’ll break down what you’re advocating for you, analogy style. First, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D).

Sen. Janet Howell proposed an amendment requiring men to undergo a rectal exam and cardiac stress test before getting prescriptions for erectile dysfunction drugs.

Santorum’s Charitable Record a ‘Glaring Inconsistency’

He apparently believes in church doctrine about contraception but not about tithing.

— Jennifer Rubin, a conservative blogger at the Washington Post, commenting on the shameful fact that the murine Rick Santorum gives less than 2% of his income to charity. Rubin called Santorum’s record a “glaring inconsistency, and added, “I focus on the charitable giving because so much of Santorum’s career and a good deal of his writing focus on faith-based charities. So why did he personally give so little to the groups he lauds?” [emphasis is Rubin’s]

Reagan Placed a Higher Tax Burden on Americans Than Obama

The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein recently refuted the Republican/Tea Party touchstone that Obama has placed a higher tax burden on Americans than other presidents. Klein shows you have only to look to Ronald Reagan for evidence.

Today’s problems, Klein says, are radically different from Reagan’s era, and they began under Clinton, who allowed the crumbling of the wall between insured and uninsured investing and the deregulation of the mortgage industry, and were exacerbated under Bush II, who continued deregulation and used deficit spending to finance tax cuts for the rich and the war he declared in Iraq.

Contrary to popular belief, taxes are lower under Obama than they were under Reagan. In 1983, when Reagan was trying to get the economy out of recession, revenues were 17.5 percent of GDP. In 2010, when Obama was trying to guide the economy into a recovery, revenues were 14.9 percent of GDP.

Taxes are so low under Obama in large part because of the Bush tax cuts and the effects of the financial crisis. But they’re also low because of the tax cuts passed by Obama in the stimulus bill.

Klein adds that the long-term outlook under the Obama plan is good.

In 1988, when Reagan left office, revenues were 18.2 percent of GDP. Under the Congressional Budget Office’s alternative-fiscal scenario — which is their most realistic projection — revenues only rise to 18.4 percent of GDP by 2021. If Obama manages to pass his most consistent tax-policy demand and sunset the Bush tax cuts for income over $250,000, that would rise by less than half a percentage point. In other words, taxes were never as low under Reagan as they are under Obama, and Obama’s policies would not lead to a significantly different tax burden than Reagan’s policies did.

Finally, Klein notes that Obama isn’t done yet so while we can definitively rate Reagan’s initiatives, Obama’s are a work in progress.

Komen Shows True Colors – and They’re Not Shades of Pink

I cannot as a physician and advocate for women’s health continue to be a part of the organization if it continues in this direction. A big part of what Komen does is reach underserved communities of women. With this decision, they’re not living up to this mission.

— Dr. Kathy Plesser, a member of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation’s New York medical advisory board, explaining why she will resign if the foundation doesn’t reverse its decision not to fund grants for mammograms performed through Planned Parenthood. Komen said it pulled its funding because rightwing Rep. Cliff Stearns (R – Fla.) is holding hearings on whether Planned Parenthood complies with federal abortion restrictions. The outcome of the investigation is immaterial, according to founder Nancy Brinker, a George W. Bush appointee, who says the mere fact of any investigation is enough to end aid. The Komen Foundation has in the past sued other groups supporting breast cancer research for the use of the color pink and the word, “cure.”

Ties Between Ron Paul and White Supremacists Exposed

PaulWhiteSupremacists
From left, Paul at the 2007 Values Voters debate with Don Black, of the neo-Nazi web site Stormfront, and his son, Derek Black

We’ve all wondered about the zealotry of Ron Paul followers and dismissed it as the idealistic naivete of his frequently young apostles. They call into radio shows and protest that their man isn’t being respected. They wave signs from freeway overpasses. They post on Facebook that, despite all evidence to the contrary, Paul still has a path to the White House. And they whisper to each other about a third party run.

But what if there is more to this devotion? What if, like the racist statements in Paul’s newsletters that appeared regularly and for years, it is exactly what it looks like?

Anonymous, the internet hacking group, is exposing close ties between Ron Paul’s campaign and neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Members of the nationalist American Third Position Party (A3P), whose website was defaced by Anonymous, organised Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s meetings and campaigns, according emails hacked by the collective…

“According to these messages, Ron Paul has regularly met with many A3P members, even engaging in conference calls with their board of directors,” read a statement from Anonymous.

Paul is apparently unconcerned about these supporters’ views.
