Ron Paul: Abortion Okay for ‘Honest’ Rapes

In his campaign for the presidency, Rep. Ron Paul insists that nothing is more important than reducing the size of government and making government less intrusive — except when it comes to the reproductive systems of American women.

When it comes to women’s bodies, Rep. Paul is all for big government. After all, somebody has to be in charge of ensuring that none of the 4 million pregnancies that occur each year in the United States are terminated illegally. There is no small-government solution for that.

Yesterday, Paul made his already contradictory position even more illogical by dividing pregnancies resulting from rapes into two categories — “honest” and, I guess, “bogus” rapes:

Ties Between Ron Paul and White Supremacists Exposed

PaulWhiteSupremacists
From left, Paul at the 2007 Values Voters debate with Don Black, of the neo-Nazi web site Stormfront, and his son, Derek Black

We’ve all wondered about the zealotry of Ron Paul followers and dismissed it as the idealistic naivete of his frequently young apostles. They call into radio shows and protest that their man isn’t being respected. They wave signs from freeway overpasses. They post on Facebook that, despite all evidence to the contrary, Paul still has a path to the White House. And they whisper to each other about a third party run.

But what if there is more to this devotion? What if, like the racist statements in Paul’s newsletters that appeared regularly and for years, it is exactly what it looks like?

Anonymous, the internet hacking group, is exposing close ties between Ron Paul’s campaign and neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

Members of the nationalist American Third Position Party (A3P), whose website was defaced by Anonymous, organised Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s meetings and campaigns, according emails hacked by the collective…

“According to these messages, Ron Paul has regularly met with many A3P members, even engaging in conference calls with their board of directors,” read a statement from Anonymous.

Paul is apparently unconcerned about these supporters’ views.

Paul Supporters Reach New Low in Anti-Huntsman Ad

Words can’t adequately describe the hot mess of racism and xenophobia that is this anti Jon Huntsman ad, so we provided it here so you could see for yourself. It is, in fact, so bad that some Paulestinians claim it was actually made as part of a conspiracy on Huntsman’s part to make Paul and his nutty devotees look bad. Yes, there’s nothing that makes serial conspiracy buffs look more legitimate than allegations of a new conspiracy. Except there is no evidence in this case that anyone but Ronulans are to blame.

Huntsman has one adopted daughter from China and another from India, both of whom were abandoned as babies.

Ron Paul is zealously in favor of outlawing abortion in all cases, despite his assertion that outside of women’s reproductive decisions, government should stay out of people’s lives.

The ad questions Huntsman’s values but it looks like those of Paul and his believers are the ones in need of clarification. If women are forced to take unwanted and accidental pregnancies to term, shouldn’t adopting the resulting abandoned children be considered a virtue — if not an obligation?

How closely Paul is linked to NHLiberty4Paul, the group that produced the ad, is not known. The candidate himself claims, as with the newsletter he published that printed racist ravings, to know nothing about the matter. Paul finds himself at the mercy of unhinged folks more often than the starlet in a horror film.

Paul People Set to Claim Conspiracy if He Doesn’t Win Iowa

Iowa Paulestinians are going crazy (is that redundant?) over the news that Republicans plan to count caucus votes in “an undisclosed location.” By that, we assume they mean the underground bunker where Dick Cheney passed most of his term as vice president.

On the one hand, we agree the so-called threat to vote security sounds entirely made up. On the other, we don’t think it means Republicans are engaged in a conspiracy to deny Rep. Ron Paul (GOP/Lib – Tx) some rightful victory.

But try telling that to Paul’s supporters.

I’m still waiting for a Ronulan to explain how Paul’s stance on abortion (he wants it outlawed) is consistent with his support for adults making their own decisions without government interference. Anybody?

Politico reported that the Iowa GOP was going under deep cover to count the votes, but cited an AP story that only claimed Occupy Wall Street protestors would attend caucuses and vote no preference. How such action would scuttle the vote is not clear but it indicates Republican paranoia about the Occupy movement.

The state party has not yet told the campaigns exactly where the returns will be added up, only that it will be off-site from the Iowa GOP’s Des Moines headquarters.

Meanwhile, the man himself continues to explain, explain, explain. When ABC’s Jake Tapper asked Paul about racist statements published repeatedly in the Ron Paul Survival Report, Paul confessed only to bad management skills.

Ron Paul Campaign Touts Endorsement by Pastor Who Calls for Executing Gays

How can libertarians be Christians? The two philosophies are polar opposites. Jesus was collectivist who commanded his followers to tend to those in need — to feed the hungry, house the homeless and heal the sick.

Libertarians like Ayn Rand, writer of the teen novel, “Atlas Shrugged,” believe that Jesus’ philosophy is, as she put it, “evil.” Followers of Rand and the libertarian creed believe selfishness is the highest virtue, that we’re all in this alone — every man woman and child for him or herself.

Polling in advance of the Iowa caucuses suggest that Rep. Ron Paul, a Christian libertarian from Texas, will come in first or second there next Tuesday. Paul, who is also a physician, says that, as a libertarian, he believes that the government should not ever interfere with individual freedoms. But, as a Christian, he also believes the opposite: when the individual happens to be a pregnant woman, Big Government should intervene to countermand her free will to choose not to give birth.

Now the Paul campaign has proudly announced that Paul has received the endorsement of a hard-core right-wing Christianist whose views are so out of the mainstream that he advocates the updating U.S. law to reflect Old Testament law, starting with the punishment for homosexuality laid out in Leviticus:

Gingrich: Ron Paul Supporters Want to ‘Legalize Drugs’

This is a guy who basically says, if the United States were only nice, it wouldn’t have had 9/11. He doesn’t want to blame the bad guys… He dismisses the danger of an Iranian nuclear weapon and seems to be indifferent to the idea that Israel could be wiped out. And as I said, I think the key to his volunteer base is people who want to legalize drugs.

— Newt Gingrich, taking “a swipe” at Ron Paul despite claims he’ll stay “positive,” the National Journal reports.

When Ron Paul’s Campaign Manager Became Ill and Uninsured in 2008, Dr. Paul Did ‘Let Him Die’

In Monday’s Republican presidential debate sponsored by CNN and the Republican Party front group, Tea Party Express, moderator Wolf Blitzter asked Rep. Ron Paul a hypothetical question. How would Paul and his followers handle it in their everyone-for-himself fantasy world, if a 30 year old man who had chosen not to buy insurance were to get sick and require long-term care.

Rep. Paul, a physician, dissembled for a few seconds before Blitzer prompted him, “Are you saying that society should just let him die?”

Before Paul could answer, several of his followers in the audience were heard cheering and shouting, “Yeah!”

But, as Mark Karlin at BuzzFlash/Truthout pointed out yesterday, the question was not actually hypothetical:

Flashback 1987: Ron Paul Trashes Ronald Reagan

Big Government libertarian Rep. Ron Paul of Texas released an attack ad this week against his intra-state rival, Gov. Rick Perry.

Paul has been running for president off and on for a quarter of century, but, according one-time Paulestinian Dave Weigel at Slate.com, this is the first attack ad ever released by a Ron Paul campaign.

The Paul campaign’s attack ad pointed up Perry’s support in 1988 for Al Gore, who ran as a conserva-Dem in the primaries that year. The Perry campaign fired back by releasing the text of Paul’s letter from the same presidential cycle explaining that he was leaving the Republican Party to run for president on the libertarian ticket. Included in his rationale was his disappointment in the policies and performance of Pres. Ronald Reagan:
