“Contest Every Race, a new coalition of Democratic groups, is launching a seven-figure campaign to challenge Republican incumbents in 26,849 down-ballot local races,” Axios reports. “2020 is more than just the presidential election. Democrats are getting serious about trying to gain more power at the local level, whether through city council seats, school boards, or state legislatures. … There are 520,000 elected offices in the country. As many as 75% go uncontested, per the group, ceding many of those seats to Republicans.”

Washington Post: “College students across the United States more than doubled their rate of voting between the 2014 and 2018 midterm elections, according to a study published Thursday by Tufts University — a dramatic spike in political engagement that could draw unprecedented attention to these voters in next year’s presidential election. … The study found that 40% of students who are eligible to vote cast ballots last year, up from 19% in 2014.”

A new Democracy Corps (D) survey finds the leading Democratic presidential candidates all defeating President Trump in a general election match up. Joe Biden leads Trump by 50% to 41%, while Elizabeth Warren leads by 48% to 41% and Bernie Sanders leads by 48% to 43%. More important: “The percent who say they are ‘extremely interested’ in the election has reached 80%, the highest point in the history of our polling.”

Washington Post: “If we combine the two most enthusiastic categories in CNN’s polling (those who say they’re extremely enthusiastic and those who identify as very enthusiastic), we see that combined enthusiasm has been at or above 70 percent in every poll CNN has conducted this cycle. … Only once before has that measure of enthusiasm been at 70 percent: Two weeks before the 2004 election, 70 percent of voters were at least very enthusiastic about voting in it. … And that’s the low so far this year.”

A new CNN poll finds 60% of Americans say President Trump does not deserve to be reelected. “Overall, the poll paints a picture of a President who has done little to improve negative impressions of him or his work during his time in office. Across several questions asked early in Trump’s time in office and asked again now, the poll finds little positive change and deep partisan polarization.”

A new Rasmussen poll finds 52% of voters are likely to vote against President Trump next year, and most of them say Trump, not the Democratic candidate, is the likeliest reason why. While 75% of Republicans are likely to vote for Trump, 21% of the voters in his own party say they are more likely to vote against him next year.

A new Marquette Law poll in Wisconsin finds Joe Biden leading President Trump in a general election match up by nine points, 51% to 42%. Bernie Sanders leads Trump by four points, 48% to 44%. Elizabeth Warren is tied with Trump at 45% and Kamala Harris is also tied at 44%.
