Romney’s Blizzard of Lies Strategy, Cont’d: Mitt Told 30 Lies in One Week – Apparently a New Record

As we noted last week, Mitt Romney has adopted the Karl Rove/George Bush “blizzard of lies” strategy in which the the candidate or politician bombards voters with so many lies that it becomes impossible to keep up. Steve Benen at MaddowBlog, who has been doing a yeoman’s job tracking Romney’s lies, reports that last week — which was the 23rd week Benen has been tallying up Romney’s lies — Mitt told the most lies in any week so far.

Breaking News: Democrats Set to Walk Out on Holder Contempt Vote

Joy-Ann Reid is reporting that House Democrats, outgunned and outnumbered by House Republicans and Teabillies, will join the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in walking out on the contempt of Congress vote set to be held on our hero, Attorney General Eric Holder, on June 28.

Yes, with all the pressing issues before the country, which, if you listen to FOX News is about to collapse from same, House Speaker John Boehner found time to not only investigate Holder (but not his predecessor in the Bush administration who started the Fast and Furious program), but to stop everything and take a vote on whether the voluminous information Holder has supplied to date is sufficient. The problem is that what Holder has coughed up does not show criminal wrong doing on the part of the Obama administration. Boehner and his co-conspirators want more, even if the proof they need never existed.

The CBC:

Instead of focusing on job creation and other critical issues before this Congress, we have been asked to engage in a political stunt on the floor of the United States House of Representatives. Our constituents elected us to do real work, not to engage in meaningless partisan activity.

For those keeping track, Pres. Obama announcing he will not enforce deportation of the narrow group of children and young adults defined by the Dream Act, which failed to get a filibuster-proof majority in 2010, is election year prostitution. But stopping the work of the House of Representatives to focus on a partisan witch hunt that, if anything incriminates Republicans’ gun lobby pals, is time well spent. Yeah, no.

New Poll Find That Just a Third of Voters View Romney Favorably – Lower by Double Digits Than the Losing Candidates in Recent Election History

George W. Bush ended his term as president in January 2009 with just one signature “accomplishment”: After eight years, he left office as the most unpopular president in the history of presidential polling — his unfavorable ratings were upside down for 39 straight months. When he finally flew back to Texas for good, Bush’s approval was a miserable 34 percent, according to Gallup.

Romney’s favorable rating is down to 30% in swing states in one poll – worse than George Bush’s overall 34% overall favorable rating when he left office.

With numbers like those, Bush could not have been reelected, obviously, were that even legally possible. In fact, no candidate who is viewed so negatively could be elected to any office, especially the presidency. Right?

Which brings us to Mitt Romney, the man who would be Bush’s successor as the next Republican president — the candidate who all but refuses to mention Bush as he campaigns — and the pol whose unfavorables among voters, especially in swing states are as bad, or, in at least one case, worse than Bush’s.

Since Tampa is the site of the Republican National Convention in August, one would think Pres. Obama would get an icy reception there. He recently found the opposite.

He drew an adoring and energetic crowd of nearly 3,000 people to Hillsborough Community College, receiving cheers of support after almost every sentence he uttered. Some people arrived at the HCC campus as early as 7:30 in the morning, camped out with folding chairs and deli sandwiches.

Obama used his first Florida 2012 campaign rally to focus on Romney’s self-portrayal as a job creator. Of course, Romney has created many, many jobs. The problem is that they are mainly in foreign countries.

In Tampa, he seized on a Washington Post article that the venture capital firm Romney used to lead, Bain Capital, invested in companies that specialized in sending jobs to low-wage countries. The president noted that he is calling for an end to tax breaks for shipping jobs and plants overseas.

“Not only does Gov. Romney disagree with this plan, today it was reported in the Washington Post that the companies his firm owned were ‘pioneers’ in the outsourcing of American jobs to places like China and India. Pioneers,” Obama said. “Tampa, we don’t need an outsourcing pioneer in the Oval Office. We need a president who will fight for American jobs and American manufacturing.”

Results of a Quinnipiac poll in Florida showing Obama moving ahead of Romney in the swing state. Among Latinos, Obama’s lead was even wider: 49 – 39. The telephone survey was taken June 12 through 18, both before and after Obama’s announcement that he will no longer enforce deportation of a narrowly defined group of Hispanic children and young adults. One would imagine Obama’s lead has only grown since, and that Mitt Romney will have even more reason to beg Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to be his running mate.

Romney Proves He’s Both a Liar and an Asshole – All in One Sentence

What — what the president did, he — he should have worked on this years ago. If he felt seriously about this, he should have taken action when he had a Democrat House and Senate, but he didn’t. He saves these sort of things until four and a half months before the general election.

– Putative GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, on “Face the Nation” on June 17, referring to Pres. Obama’s decision to halt deportation of children of undocumented workers. In this one statement, Romney lies about the history of the DREAM Act and proves conclusively that he is an asshole. First the lying: the DREAM Act passed in both the Democratic controlled House and Senate late in 2010, but it “only” received 55 votes in the Senate, not the 60 votes needed to prevent a Republican filibuster. Second, Republican pols use witch-hunter Sen. Joe McCarthy’s formulation of “Democrat” as an adjective — as in “Democrat Congress” — as proof to their half-witted base that they are assholes who enjoy annoying grammarians and Democrats.

Billionaires Choose Husband of Sonny Bono’s Widow to Be Florida Senate GOP Nominee – Former Sen. LeMieux Drops Primary Bid

Yesterday, Politico.com reported that Newt Gingrich’s former sugar daddy, the casino mogul and Israel-firster Sheldon Adelson, was donating $1 million to a super PAC for Rep. Connie Mac — who, non-Floridians should note, is a man — in his bid to become the Republican nominee in the race for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Bill Nelson, a Democrat.

Mack has also been endorsed by the astroturf billionaire front-group Freedomworks, as well as the GOP nominee and quarter-billionaire Mitt Romney.

Today, Roll Call reports that former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux is dropping his primary. LeMieux released a whiny video in which he indicates that he was shoved out of the race by a shadowy group he refers to as the Florida GOP “establishment.”

Rep. Mack is married to Rep. Mary Bono, the widow of Sonny Bono, the late ex-husband of Cher. Mary Bono now holds the U.S House seat representing Palm Springs, Calif., that Sonny held before he was killed in a skiing accident in 1998.
