Dems to Paint Romney as ‘Predatory, Unfettered’ Capitalist

The Bain years are central to Romney’s narrative. If you think about the arc of his life, on a personal level, he seems to be an exemplary man. He was born with every advantage of wealth, power, and privilege. But he used all of those talents to enrich himself and his wealthy friends — and to screw the middle class. That feeds into his policy agenda.

— Democratic strategist Paul Begala, in an interview with Greg Sargent, on how Democrats plan to paint Mitt Romney “as a symbol of the predatory, unfettered capitalism that landed us in our economic crisis.”

Van Jones Calls Out Progressives

I thought progressives were too quick to go from hopey to mopey. They skipped the fight in the middle…You hear people talking about a disappointment [in Obama] and this kind of thing. I’m still of the view it was never, ‘Yes, he can.’ It’s supposed to be, ‘Yes, we can.’ And the ‘we’ was not evident in a couple of those years.

— Van Jones, former Green Energy Czar in the Obama administration. Jones left that post after being targeted by Glenn Beck for calling Republicans “assholes” before he joined the government. It was also noted he once signed a 911Truth.org petition asking for more information about 9/11.

Jeb Bush: Who Republicans Evoke When They Can’t Beat Democrats

With the people in the field right now, I think it will be difficult to beat Bill Nelson. I still think Jeb Bush might don the cape and get in.

Florida State Senate Pres. Mike Haridopolos (R-Merritt Island), discussing the U.S. Senate race for the seat currently held by Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.). Haridopolos dropped out of the contest this year, leaving challengers that Vice Pres. Joe Biden referred to at the recent Florida Democratic Convention as, “the seven dwarfs.”

Florida’s Newest Democrat: Mrs. Charlie Crist

Carole Crist: Too smart to be a Republican?

While the obvious question might be, “What took you so long?” the fact remains that even Carole Rome Crist, wife of former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, is now a Democrat.

Crist himself, of course, left the Republican party when it went all tea party crazy and lined up behind eventual winner Marco Rubio in the 2010 Florida Senate race. But Charlie simply dropped out of the GOP to become an independent while Mrs. Crist is taking the more active step of registering as a Democrat.

Which straw, we wonder, broke the camel’s back and turned Carole from red to blue?

New Republican Senators Not Very Popular

3rd – or 1st, depending

Rank of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in popularity of new senators. Public Policy Polling ranked the top ten of the senators elected in 2010 and found the only two Democrats in positions number one (Joe Manchin, W.V. with a rating of +33) and two (Richard Blumenthal, Conn. at +18). Rubio was third, but first among Republicans, with an approval rating of +7, with Rand Paul (Ken.) near the bottom at -2, and Roy Blunt (Mo.) dead last at -9.

Gov. Deval Patrick “Resurrected” in Massachusetts

54%

Of Massachusetts voters approve of the job Deval Patrick is doing as governor, according to Public Policy Polling (PPP). The research group said Patrick’s turnaround from a 22% approval rating 17 months ago is the largest “resurrection” of a candidate since they’ve been polling nationally. It also said Democrats should try harder to convince Patrick to run for Senate against Scott Brown, whose numbers are not as high.

GOP/Tea Overconfidence Ends in Defeat

He didn’t write anybody off. He went and talked to everybody, while on the other side, they ran like they had already won it.

— Former Jacksonville, FL mayor Jake Godbold, commenting on the win for the office by Democrat Alvin Brown. The Republican/Tea Party candidate was so favored to win that both he and his party badly miscalculated voter sentiment.
