NBC’s David Gregory’s “Grand Wizard” Freudian Slip

David Gregory is walking back an analogous term he used during a Today Show interview, in which he said there is no “grand wizard” at the GOP calling the shots on the Herman Cain scandal. Gregory later tweeted, “”Wizard” remark this morning was a very poor choice of words. Did not mean to make that connection at all. Was not thinking. I apologize”.

In fact, Gregory’s comment was perfect. While he might have been visualizing the wizard in Oz, the term “grand wizard” is normally associated with the Ku Klux Klan.

Considering the Republican and tea party embrace of the Koch Brothers-funded ALEC legislative goals of drug testing welfare recipients; making it harder for the poor and young people to vote, in violation the 1965 Voting Rights Act; and imprisoning people who came here illegally and denying an education to their children who are native-born Americans, it’s not a real reach to wonder if there aren’t Klan sympathizers in the Grand Old Party.

If you’re having trouble grocking Herman Cain, a recent article in the New York Times will make your mental light bulb shine.

Cain, who has been the next Reagan since he won the straw poll at Florida’s Presidency 5 confab in September, says his main virtue is that he is an outsider to politics. And while it’s true that Cain has never held elected office, he is only an outsider in the Jack Abramoff sense of that word.*

…the role that helped propel Mr. Cain into politics was that of an ultimate Washington insider: industry lobbyist.

The House of Representatives is expected to take action Thursday on a bipartisan agreement ending a dispute over disaster relief spending that threatened to cause a partial shutdown of the government by the end of the week.

Specifically, the House is set to approve a one-week government funding extension on Thursday, followed by a more comprehensive measure next week that will keep Washington funded through November 18, according to the office of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Virginia.

The age of multitasking in Congress is over

So that’s how we’re doing it now? It’s a legislative victory when we muster all our resources to agree not to shut down the government and instead to continue relief for Americans devastated by disaster…for one week? And the more comprehensive measure, the big blockbuster deal, is to keep the government operating right through part of the month after next?

So one of the new talking points to combat the higher tax rates for millionaires is this line: “If Warren Buffett thinks he should pay more taxes, he should write a check.” Sounds good. But is that how we’re doing it now? If you propose something, you have to go first? If so, then there are a lot of chickenhawk, eager-to-wage-war politicians who should probably drag their asses over to the frontlines of Afghanistan.

For starters, we have the amount that federal spending has increased under Pres. Obama (a barely cost-of-living equivalent 7.2 percent) compared to how much it increased under the two off-the-books wars and one unfunded prescription drug mandate man, Pres. Bush (a whopping 88 percent). Truth-Out noted that the figures do not include recent budget cuts.

But wait, there’s more reality-based number crunching ahead.

Our people are suffering now, and they need support now. And they (Congress) can all go down there and get back to work and figure out budget cuts later.

Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), often suggested as a presidential candidate, disagreeing with Rep. Eric Cantor that before offering disaster aid, the federal government must make commensurate cuts in other areas.

Here is another brilliant summation from Jon Stewart, this one on Republican attempts to shift more of the taxation burden to the middle and poor classes, and keep the rich fat and happy. Hopefully more people will begin to understand that we are being played like violins by the ultra-rich, who know that as long as we buy into the fiction that it’s us (the struggling middle class) versus them (the struggling poor), the rich win.

Prediction from Texas: American Democracy Will End in 2012 — After the Election of Perry-Palin

StatueLibertyDarkJames Moore, co-author of Bush’s Brain, a profile of Karl Rove, has an explanation for why America has a very good chance of electing Perry-Palin in 2012. And why doing so will be the end of democracy as we know it.

He starts by revealing what “The Response,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s recent prayer meeting, was actually about.

The big brains gathered east of the Hudson and Potomac Rivers believe that Mitt Romney is the candidate to beat. But they are unable to hear what Rick Perry is saying. The Christian prayer rally in Houston was a very loud proclamation to fundamentalists and Teavangelicals, which said, “I am not a Mormon…”

Moore on Perry: ‘A C- and D-student who hates to govern, loves to campaign, and barely has a sixth grader’s understanding of economics, will lead our nation into oblivion.’

Perry, of course, can’t come right out and print bumper stickers that say, “Rick Perry — 2012 — Not a Mormon.” But he doesn’t have to…Perry is about to remind the tea partiers and fundamentalists that Romney created a state health care plan…, believes global warming is real, and has a troubling history for conservatives on the matters of abortion and gay marriage.

So good-bye Mitt. Moore dispatches the rest of the Republican field in quicker order, and returns to the subject of Perry winning — and the depressing consequences.
