Rush on the Run: Forced to Apologize as Advertisers Dump Him
Rush’s “apology” to Sandra Fluke doesn’t begin to cover it. Calling her a slut was the least of the ugliness he heaped upon her. Rush made it clear in his attack that any woman who is not ashamed enough of the fact that she has sex to keep quiet about it is a whore, a prostitute, a slut. And furthermore, he would like to get him some of that or at the very least watch videos of it online. One can only be relieved that none of Rush’s wives stuck around long enough to bear him a child, especially a daughter.
As expected, Rush’s “apology” makes it clear he still means every word he said and only regrets, like Mitt Romney, the semantics.
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

But you might want to express to the Mitt Romney campaign how weak and mealy-mouthed their candidate sounded today, when all he could find to disagree about with Limbaugh was not what Rush said but how he said it.
“I’ll just say this, which is, it’s not the language I would have used. I’m focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today, and that’s why I’m here talking about jobs and Ohio.”

If you noticed an avalanche of lawsuits over your decisions, would you:
a) Take a moment to consider objectively what you’ve been doing and adjust your actions going forward, or
b) Pass legislation that says you can no longer be sued.
If you’re a Florida lawmaker, you will pick option B in a heartbeat. And so, Florida’s super-majority Republican legislature, facing court challenges to ALEC-written laws, is now shielding its members from giving testimony or depositions explaining their intentions.
Republicans on the panel [committee] said the move was necessary because more and more groups – teachers, unions, and others – are filing lawsuits against the Legislature and attempting to compel lawmakers and their staff to testify about the “legislative intent” behind what they’ve passed…

Gay Couples Paying Marriage Excise Tax Under DOMA

The average amount higher that same-sex married couples pay in income taxes than their man-lady counterparts, even in states where same-sex marriage is legal. The problem is the federal government following the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), put in place under Pres. Bill Clinton and which defines marriage as an arrangement between one man and one woman. The Obama administration has declined to defend DOMA in court but Congress may defend do so and Speaker of the House John Boehner has announced intentions to continue to do exactly that.
Dem: House Freshmen are ‘Kamikazes’
The kamikazes’ casualty list this year is long. They blew up the debt-ceiling vote this summer, sparking a downgrade in the nation’s credit rating. They blew up the appropriations process so thoroughly that routine spending votes morphed into philosophical standoffs that nearly locked down the federal government three times and required seven temporary funding patches just to keep the lights on. And this week, they managed to blow up not just a tax cut that nearly everyone in Washington agrees is a good idea, but also their party’s hard-earned reputation for cutting taxes and, quite possibly, their chances at a long-term majority in the House and future control of the Senate.

Romney’s Idea of a Casual Bet is a Quarter of Most People’s Annual Salary
Watch Perry’s face as Romney holds out his hand and asks him to bet, you know, the usual amount for a casual wager — $10,000 — on whether Romney once favored requiring people to have health insurance. Catch that flicker of incredulity and astonishment as Romney proves he’s serious about the sum by repeating it in case Perry didn’t get it the first time.
Certainly Romney and his folks will walk back this display of Romney’s 1%-ness by claiming he was only kidding and that members of the Mormon sect don’t bet either. Most of those watching the moment are unconvinced.
Bill Burton, spokesman for PrioritiesUSA, an outside group supporting President Barack Obama’s re-election, said the attempted wager is another sign that in an economy with 8.6 percent unemployment, Romney “could not be more out of step.”
…”It is predictable that Mitt Romney will slip up and let folks in on who he is from time-to-time,” Burton said in an email. “Corporations are people, joking about being unemployed and now this. Mitt Romney has no clue what pain the American middle class is feeling right now.”
Meanwhile, fellow Mormonite and silver spoon baby Jon Huntsman is jumping on Romney’s slip.
Rival Republican Jon Huntsman’s campaign seized on Romney’s remark, promising in an email that the website 10KBet.com was on its way.

Law Makers Have to Live With Consequences of Their Own Gun Laws
Guns were king during the last couple of legislative sessions in Florida. The Republican super-majorities of both chambers passed laws to imprison pediatricians who so much as asked if there was a gun in the home. They voted to allow visitors in state parks to bring all the guns they wanted into campsites, where they could presumably blast away at fellow campers who seem threatening. At the same time, they worked tirelessly to ensure that employers on private property could not set their own rules prohibiting employees from bringing guns to work, which surely renders annual evaluations much more high stakes.
Florida’s very own Marion Hammer, inducted into the Florida Woman’s Hall of Fame by former Gov. Jeb Bush, and longtime National Rifle Association (NRA) head and lobbyist, led the way on expanding the rights of guns to go wherever they wanted, no questions asked (under penalty of prison). The Republicans in the Florida House and Senate just could not seem to do enough of her bidding.
And now they have to live with it. In a story surely destined for the Department of Ironies, the Florida legislature is finding out firsthand what it means to bring guns into everyone’s personal space. And many of them don’t like it.
Real Versus Artificial: Not the Christmas Tree, the Story About the Christmas Tree Tax
As American Christians begin making their annual decision about whether to go with a real Christmas tree (love the pine aroma!) or an artificial one (love the easy clean-up!), there is another real vs. artificial question hanging.
That’s about a story on the Drudge Report claiming the Obama administration is taxing sales of real Christmas trees. The answer is: FAKE.

In the Drudge Report’s world of sensationalist all-caps headlines, it doesn’t get much better than “OBAMA’S NEW ‘CHRISTMAS TREE TAX.'” In five sparse words, the headline captured pretty much everything Drudge and its readers believe about the current administration, in which big-government liberals would figure out a way to tax Christmas during hard economic times.
The only problem? It wasn’t true. The 15-cents-a-tree charge that caused so much commotion earlier in the week was not a tax, and it has little to do with the Obama administration.
But sad experience has taught that things don’t have to be true to be repeated in the rightwing echo chamber and instituted as memes on FOX News, and next thing you know, outraged seniors (who make up the majority of FOX’s viewers) and other low information voters (who make up the rest) are calling their elected representatives demanding change. Which, in this case, is a dumb idea. Read on to find out why.
