NFL fans on both side of the aisle hope the refs’ lockout is settled soon. -bo

Pres. Obama, tweeting after a complicated call on a complicated play by stand-in referees that recently gave a win to the Seattle Seahawks. Upset Green Bay Packers fans want the NFL to settle their labor dispute with the real refs before any more games go awry. One can’t help but wonder if Mitt Romney, who famously said he wasn’t a NASCAR fan but knew several team owners, has ever seen a pro football game or would know an interception if he made one.

Romney’s ’47 Percent’ Quote Rankles Majority of Americans

Of Americans have unfavorable views of Mitt Romney’s comments — caught on film at a fundraiser — regarding the “47 percent” of people who pay not federal income taxes and simply would not vote for him. Just 32% saw them favorable, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. In addtiion, 61% of all Americans express negative views of how Romney is running his campaign. That number is up significantly from July — the near-certain result of the much-publicized comments by Romney.

Update: Turns out that Poltiico’s Roger Simon intended his Ryan’s going rogue story to be an Onion-style satire. However, a GOP operative in Iowa — the state where Ryan will launch his presidential bid in three years — did say that Ryan would have to “wash the stench of Romney off of him.” Ryan really was booed at the AARP convention last week, and he really has begun using Romney-esque Powerpoint presentations on the federal budget during campaign events. But everything else in the Politico story was meant to be a joke.

With nothing but bad news coming from the polls in the wake of the release of a secretly recorded video in which Mitt Romney’s asserted that 47 percent of Americans are hopeless, self-victimizing wards of the state for whom, as president, he would bear no responsibility, it now appears that, like the previous teavangelical Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Romney’s running mate Rep. Paul Ryan is goin’ rogue.

In the New York Times earlier this week, an Iowa Republican operative said, “I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him.”
