Gov. Deval Patrick “Resurrected” in Massachusetts

Of Massachusetts voters approve of the job Deval Patrick is doing as governor, according to Public Policy Polling (PPP). The research group said Patrick’s turnaround from a 22% approval rating 17 months ago is the largest “resurrection” of a candidate since they’ve been polling nationally. It also said Democrats should try harder to convince Patrick to run for Senate against Scott Brown, whose numbers are not as high.
This Week Marks 10 Years Under the Bush Tax Cuts

Of New York City voters believe Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) should not resign from his job over his sexting scandal, while 30% disagree and think he should step down, and 18% are still unsure. However, 56% do not want Weiner to run for New York City mayor in 2013, including a majority of Democrats.

In Boston on her non-campaign tour of historic sites last week, Sarah Palin mangled the facts about the midnight ride of Paul Revere. As any school child knows, Revere rode out from Boston toward Lexington, Mass., to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming for them. In Palin’s version, Revere was “ridin’ his horse through town” sending “warnin’ shots and bells” to warn the British that Americans love guns.
Earlier this year, Palin’s doppelganger, Rep. Michele Bachmann, misspoke in front of a New Hampshire audience, asserting that the battle of Lexington, which occurred subsequent to Revere’s ride, had happened in their state, not Massachusetts.
Even worse, campaigning for the presidency in Iowa back in January, Bachmann asserted that the Founding Fathers had ended slavery. She specifically cited the role of John Quincy Adams in freeing the slaves. She was apparently unaware that JQA was not a Founder and that slavery ended in the mid-1860s, long after he and his father’s generation had shuffled off this mortal coil.
Based on a new history of the Boston Tea Party — “American Tempest: How the Boston Tea Party Sparked a Revolution,” by historian Harlow Unger — if facts mattered to Palin, Bachmann and their tea bagger followers, they probably would have chosen another revolutionary era movement as a model:

In the wake of a succession of adultery-related scandals by GOP “family values” Christian politicians, including Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Sens. John Ensign of Nevada and David Vitter of Louisiana, a few years ago, Washington Republicans spoke with one voice: We should pray for their families, but these politicians should not resign — their fates should be decided by the voters in their states.
Now, hot on the heels of revelations that Rep. Anthony Weiner exchanged lewd Twitter photos with women he did not otherwise know, Republicans are again speaking with one voice: Screw Weiner’s family and his constituents, he should resign immediately.
Neither Gov. Sanford nor Sen. Ensign resigned when their adulteries were revealed — Ensign finally left the Senate this year after the Ethics Committee referred his case to the Department of Justice.
But what Weiner did pales in comparison with the criminal behavior by Sen. Vitter, who repeatedly paid prostitutes for sex, and who is still serving in the United States Senate.
