Fox News Ignores Christie’s Bridgegate Scandal – Until Shep Smith Mentions It Briefly, Invites Viewers to ‘Google It’

This is how propaganda works, Fox News-style.

Nearly six hours after the story first broke — and well after both CNN and MSNBC first covered it in detail — Fox News finally devoted a short segment to the bridge scandal during Shepard Smith Reporting.

While declining to delve into the details of the damning emails — Shep Smith informed viewers that “they’re an easy Google away if you want to take a look” — Smith nonetheless concluded that, “the emails will be trouble for Governor Christie at least in local politics for quite some time. And if he decides to run for president, rest assured they’ll end up in campaign ads. There’s no question about it.”

On FOX, The Truth is Faster

47

Number of minutes FOX News used to point out that the recent CBS 60 Minutes piece, which was later found to have falsely portrayed events in Benghazi, backed up the Republican portrayal of the incident. That was three times the length of the original 60 Minutes report. Amount of time FOX spent on the subsequent correction: 26 seconds.

News You Won’t See on Fox: U.S. Deficit Is Now at a Five-Year Low

According to the Associated Press:

For the first time in five years, the U.S. government has run a budget deficit below $1 trillion.

The government says the deficit for the 2013 budget year totaled $680.3 billion, down from $1.09 trillion in 2012. That’s the smallest imbalance since 2008, when the government ran a $458.6 billion deficit.

Kentucky Proves Republicans Were Right About Obamacare

Kentucky Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, AP photo

There’s no shortage of jokes about Kentucky.*

Q: What do a divorce in Kentucky, a tornado in Kansas, and a hurricane in Louisiana have in common?
A: Somebody’s fixin’ to lose the trailer.

Q: What do you get when there are 32 Kentuckians in a room together?
A: A full set of teeth.

We are a nation lost in tea party mission creep, as the Party of No struggles to figure out its evolving hostage demand

Two Kentucky guys were driving in the pickup, drinking a couple of long-neck Buds, when they came upon a police roadblock. The driver told his friend to peel off the label and stick it on his forehead, then stash the bottle under the seat, and he did the same. When it was their turn at the roadblock, the officer said, “Have you boys been drinking?” The driver replied, “No sir, we’re on the patch.”

So it came as small surprise that many in Kentucky who bombarded the state’s phone line and website to sign up for health coverage on Oct. 1 specified that they did not want Obamacare. Instead, they insisted, they wanted to sign up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

[Kentuckians, please note: Emergency FOXectomies are not covered under Obamacare.]

Kentucky’s response proves Republicans were right on almost every point.

Fox News Analysis Finds a Way to Co-Opt the ’50 Years After March on Washington’ Meme

If you’re Fox News, how do you deal with the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington? Co-opt it!

Thanks to Josh Barro at Business Insider for bringing this insightful analysis from Fox News to our attention. As WonkBlog points out, the construction lends itself to a wide variety of useful insights:

The great thing about this is that the formulation works for anything. “50 years after March on Washington, the bees are dying.” “50 years after March on Washington, some worry about Miley Cyrus’s ‘twerking’.” “”50 years after March on Washington, my sink is leaking.” “50 years after the March on Washington, we still don’t have jetpacks.”

We have a few more to add:

  • 50 years after March on Washington, Congress still at loggerheads
  • 50 years after March on Washington, Kanye West thinks he’s a god
  • 50 years after March on Washington, black people are still black
  • 50 years after March on Washington, some think tattoos are cool

Do you have any “50 years after March on Washington” insights to share? Leave a comment.

Good News for America, Bad News for the GOP – CBO Says Deficit Is Shrinking Faster Than at Any Time Since Post-World War II

Chart based on figures from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office showing the federal deficit for each year since the economy crashed at the end of the Bush administration

Good news, America. The federal deficit is shrinking faster than it has since the end of World War II, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Oddly enough, however, this good news for the country — this sure sign that the United States is finally recovering from the economic crash at the end of the Bush administration — is actually horrible news for the Republican Party, which for the past five years has pinned its hopes on defeating Pres. Obama and the Democrats by deliberately hobbling the recovery with the hope that a weak economy would benefit them politically.

FOX’s Lou Dobbs and Other Males Astounded, Outraged That 40% of Women Out-Earn Men

You’ve probably heard about it but you have to see it to believe it. Watch for yourself the spectacle of Republicans coming to the realization that they live in a new world — if you consider all the years of most of our lifetimes “new.”

Fox News Commentator Says Women Heading Households is ‘Anti-Science’

I’m so used to liberals telling conservatives that they’re anti-science. But liberals who defend this and say it is not a bad thing are very anti-science. When you look at biology — when you look at the natural world — the roles of a male and a female in society and in other animals, the male typically is the dominant role. The female, it’s not antithesis, or it’s not competing, it’s a complementary role.

— Erick Erickson, on Fox Business, commenting on a Pew Research report that found mothers were the sole breadwinners in 40% of American households with children.
