Marriage? Not So Much

Of American adults are married, a record low. The numbers are even lower among young people. In 1960, nearly 60% of adults age 18 to 29 were married. Today, the amount is 20%. The Pew Research study doesn’t count same-sex marriage, but includes a “family” category for gay couples raising children.
Huntsman Labels Women “Bimbos”
I’m not the first to note that it’s pretty sleazy for a man who puts three of his SEVEN children — his three oldest daughters — front and center in his campaign to call charges from several women who claim they were sexually harassed a “bimbo eruption.” But Jon Huntsman’s Mormon sexism is showing.
Huntsman was first quoted in the Boston Herald.
“We’ve got real issues to talk about not the latest bimbo eruption,” Huntsman told the Herald today.
Apparently to Huntsman, women are all alike
The recent ambassador to China was referring to an admission by a colleague of Herman Cain, the former head of the lobbying organization the National Restaurant Association, that she and Cain carried on a 13-year affair. She stepped forward after it was exposed that Cain’s lawyers had settled at least three sexual harassment cases against him while he lobbyied for the trade group. Cain’s explanation about the lawsuits shifted from denial to faulty memory, but he claimed he’s been true to his wife throughout their marriage.
Republicans Accept $18 Million Government Bailout for Convention Expenses
You know how Republicans are always telling the rest of us that we need to get by without federal assistance, to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, to pay our own way, and to just generally be self-sufficient? Well when it comes to throwing parties, forget all that!
Republicans are helping themselves to $18 million of the public dole for party planning for their 2012 national convention in Tampa. Let the good times roll!
Let me beat FOX News to the false equivalence punch by acknowledging that Democrats will likely accept funding for their convention in Charlotte. But there’s a difference.
Organizers of the 2012 Republican National Convention have received a $18 million grant from the Federal Elections Commission for planning and preparation…
The money, which comes from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund, had been anticipated and is intended for payroll for staff members, travel, office supplies and other convention-related expenses.
While charges of hypocrisy might apply to the GOP for accepting the grant, that case certainly can’t be made concerning Republican deficit handling. The first use of quite a few of those many, many benjamins is paying off debt racked up in the past few years, when fundraising didn’t keep pace with spending.

So one of the new talking points to combat the higher tax rates for millionaires is this line: “If Warren Buffett thinks he should pay more taxes, he should write a check.” Sounds good. But is that how we’re doing it now? If you propose something, you have to go first? If so, then there are a lot of chickenhawk, eager-to-wage-war politicians who should probably drag their asses over to the frontlines of Afghanistan.

James Moore, co-author of Bush’s Brain, a profile of Karl Rove, has an explanation for why America has a very good chance of electing Perry-Palin in 2012. And why doing so will be the end of democracy as we know it.
He starts by revealing what “The Response,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s recent prayer meeting, was actually about.
The big brains gathered east of the Hudson and Potomac Rivers believe that Mitt Romney is the candidate to beat. But they are unable to hear what Rick Perry is saying. The Christian prayer rally in Houston was a very loud proclamation to fundamentalists and Teavangelicals, which said, “I am not a Mormon…”
Moore on Perry: ‘A C- and D-student who hates to govern, loves to campaign, and barely has a sixth grader’s understanding of economics, will lead our nation into oblivion.’Perry, of course, can’t come right out and print bumper stickers that say, “Rick Perry — 2012 — Not a Mormon.” But he doesn’t have to…Perry is about to remind the tea partiers and fundamentalists that Romney created a state health care plan…, believes global warming is real, and has a troubling history for conservatives on the matters of abortion and gay marriage.
So good-bye Mitt. Moore dispatches the rest of the Republican field in quicker order, and returns to the subject of Perry winning — and the depressing consequences.
