Angle Ad: If You’re White, Aliens are Coming to Get You

The newest ad from U.S. Senate candidate from Nevada, Sharron Angle, is the Willie Horton story of our day. Anyone who could watch this piece of work and not get the fear-mongering it employs should watch it again. But just in case you still don’t get it, Mi Blog es tu Blog‘s Laura Martinez breaks it down. Ads like Angle’s, she says:

…remind us that Latino immigrants are a scary bunch — crossing the border armed with knifes and torches, ready to strip you of your benefits and jobs and scare the hell out of your white family.

Angle’s spots go way beyond blatantly stereotyping Latino immigrants as a bandana-wearing crowd ready to corner you in some dark alley. More gravely, they send a message of “us” against “them.” It’s Brown vs. White. Watch closely: While the ad mentions immigrants going to college and collecting social security, every shot of the “illegal aliens” shows particularly swarthy Latino youth all dressed up for gang initiation. The family that is shown living in fear of them is white.

…I can only hope these “dangerous fellows” will take some time off their criminal activities to go to the polls this November.

Palin Desecrates American Flag at Sharron Angle Tea Party Rally

At 1:36, Palin desecrates the American flag. As has been posited, imagine as you watch the video what would have happened if Pres. or Mrs. Obama or Speaker Pelosi had wielded that Sharpie. Gawker first noted the desecretion, quoting Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8 of the United States Code: “The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.”

Tell Clarence Thomas to Apologize

We relayed the story of how the deranged tea bagger wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas left a voice mail, out of the blue, for Brandeis University Prof. Anita Hill, asking her to first pray, then apologize for what Hill did WITH said deranged tea bagger wife’s husband.

Now Credo, the socially responsible phone carrier, is hosting a site with a petition asking that Thomas, not Hill, do some apologizing.

While we’re at it, can someone start a petition to add Anita Hill to the Supreme Court?

Twenty years ago, Professor Hill described how the now Supreme Court justice subjected her to descriptions of pornography he had watched, bragged about his own sexual prowess in graphic terms and famously reached for a soft drink in her office and remarked, “Who has put pubic hair on my Coke?”

Florida Gov. Candidate Rick Scott Doesn’t Know What You Mean

In this footage from depositions that then-CEO tea Rick Scott gave when Columbia/HCA was under investigation for Medicare/Medicaid fraud in 1995, Scott makes Bill Clinton — who famously told investigators into his sex life that his answer depended on what your definition of “is” is — look like an over-sharer. Although Columbia went on to receive the nation’s biggest fine ($1.7 billion) for its guilt, and Scott was forced to resign to avoid criminal prosecution, investigators got farcically little cooperation from the man who now wants to run Florida “like a business.”

Indecipherable Palin Tweet Translated: “I Don’t Know What I’m Talking About”

Pennsylvania, West Virginia, who can keep them straight? Not Sarah Palin, tweeting one of her highly-sought and overwrought endorsements for U.S. Senate candidate John Raese – to voters in the wrong state. CNN reports that, like all things Sarah does and then regrets, the tweet has been pulled from her Twitter feed.

The West Virginia Democratic Party took the opening on behalf of candidate Joe Manchin, releasing this swipe:

“With John Raese, it is easy to get confused as to where he actually lives. He may be running for Senate in West Virginia, but he really could choose to run in any of the states in which he belongs to a country club,” Chairman Larry Puccio said in the statement. “West Virginians can’t really fault Sarah Palin for getting confused – we are too.”

Clarence Thomas’ Wife Stalks Anita Hill in Phone Message Asking for Apology

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ obnoxious, over-privileged, tea bagger wife might have stepped in it this time. In a move that can only be explained by years of having the matter eat away at her most personal world view, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas reached out to Anita Hill. That’s “reached out” in the sense of left an out-of-the-blue vaguely malevolent message on her phone.

In a statement to CNN, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas said: “I did place a call to Ms. Hill at her office extending an olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get passed [sic] what happened so long ago. That offer still stands, I would be very happy to meet and talk with her if she would be willing to do the same. Certainly no offense was ever intended.”

Gosh, that sounds nice, doesn’t it? Ginni was just sitting around, musing on how she could set things right with anyone with whom she might be at odds, and the name “Anita Hill” came to mind. So Ginni, being the peaceable person that she is, hit the stalker speed dial for Dr. Hill’s office, and showed who was the better woman.

And it isn’t her. Here’s what she really said.

New Ad Drives Home Rick Scott’s Dirty Deals

It’s hard to watch this video from the Alex Sink campaign and not care if she or Rick Scott is elected governor of Florida. One of the many things that bother me about Scott is how much he doesn’t get the concept of answering to the people — and if he is elected, he will be working for us, not a private corporate board. When Jeb Bush was governor, we were used to arrogance in Tallahassee but it was a different type. Rick Scott truly thinks he can tell us only what he wants to, and the rest is none of our business. It ain’t that way.
