Let’s Do Math! Republicans, Please Grab a Pencil
The Obama family is on vacation. That means it’s time for Republicans and tea partiers to take a break from obstructing legislation, nomination approvals, and any other work in Congress (including suing the president for taking appropriate executive action to counter their inaction) to express ginned-up outrage that the people’s business won’t be done if the president takes a few days off.
It’s also time for the rest of us to do some math, based on figures researched by Politifact’s Truthometer:
- Number of vacation days, in whole or part, enjoyed by Pres. Obama at this point in his term, which on July 20, 2014 happened to be exactly six years and seven months: 92
- Number of vacation days, in whole or part, enjoyed by Pres. George W. Bush at the same point in his term: 367
Let’s put these numbers in context.
Question His Answers
When asked whether he had ever smoked pot,
Marco Rubio wouldn’t say that he did or did not.
See, his political positions
Are political calculations,
Which means his questionable answers ain’t worth snot.
Boehner Is Pragmatic — In Secret

Midterm Worm Turn
The NSA leaks were met with Republican indignation.
They said Edward Snowden was a disgrace to the nation.
They called him a spy,
But now they love the guy
For giving them cause to investigate the administration.
They first said Snowden’s leak was a defection,
But now they see his point, upon reflection.
He gave them insights
Into things that weren’t right,
And hey, just in time for the midterm elections!
Texas Republican Compares Obama Admin Deal on Iranian Uranium to Chamberlain’s Appeasement of Hitler
Prime Minister Chamberlain would have been proud after the West gave the snake oil salesman of the desert, Mr. Rouhani, exactly what he wanted: time and money to pursue his quest for nuclear intimidation.
— Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX), quoted by The Hill, comparing the Obama administration’s short-term deal on Iran’s nuclear capability with former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s attempt to appease Nazi Germany.

87

Heads Must Roll!
Obamacare’s website’s faltering, so the Republicans grandstand,
With a whole bunch of nebbish Democrats joining the band.
Sure, most are digital Luddites
Who don’t know a bit from a byte,
But they still want someone fired over what they don’t understand.
North Carolina Governor Pushed Austerity for the Middle Class, Now Plans $230K Upgrade to Governor’s Mansion Bathrooms
$230,000
Cost in taxpayer funds to renovate bathrooms in the residence of North Carolina Republican Gov. Pat McCrory at the state’s Governor’s Mansion in Raleigh, according to the Associated Press. Reacting to the news, North Carolina Democratic Party spokesman Ben Ray said, “This is an administration and a legislature that rejected health care for 500,000 North Carolinians [referring to the GOP-controlled state government’s refusal to expand Medicaid, mostly with federal funds, under the Affordable Care Act]. So to drop $230,000 on a bathroom renovation just shows that Pat McCrory’s priority is not North Carolina, but himself.”
What It Takes to Be a Republican These Days
“Here’s a clue people and Courier editorial staff: Will McAvoy is a fictional character on HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ series. The GOP Requirements letter is a direct quote from Sunday night’s episode. As a former Republican I tend to agree with the script.”
— Louisville Courier-Journal reader Mike Hammond
