Here’s How the Gun Lobby Wants Us to Live

Quality of life? Out the window.

If you were wondering what life is like under the recently passed, “All Guns, All the Time” Georgia law crafted by ALEC and the gun lobby, here’s an answer. It means that some guy, trying to make a point that only he understands, can pace back and forth at your kid’s little league game with a gun (and knife) clipped to his belt. And when you and the other parents herd your kids into the dugout and form a human shield around them as you call 911, you can be told by law enforcement that there is nothing they can do.

Quality of life? Out the window, when there are important second amendment rights to be exercised. Where are your priorities, parents?

The park is responding by considering hiring an armed guard, because the answer to too many guns is just what Gun Owners of America and the NRA want: more guns! Feel secure, knowing your second grader is playing under loaded weaponry.

It’s time to pause and remember the wise words of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) in the movie, Jurassic Park. “Just because we can, it doesn’t mean we should.”

Even the 2nd Amendment’s Little Known Dumbass Clause Wasn’t Strong Enough

While this ad from Saatchi & Saatchi for the “gun responsibility” group, Evolve, is funny, neither the ad’s, nor the group’s, dots connect.

“Personal decisions” leave us at the mercy, not of good guys with guns, but just guys with guns which in reality is all there is

The spot’s creators said they were not taking a stand on gun safety laws.

“When we researched the gun debate in America, we saw that it’s become almost impossible to have a thoughtful discussion about gun safety. What I love about Evolve is that they’re not about taking a side in that debate–they’re squarely focused on promoting personal decisions about gun safety.”

No Democrats Spoke at the NRA Convention

Number of Democrats who spoke at the National Rifle Association’s 2013 annual convention. “In an indicator of the continued influence of the nation’s largest gun-owners’ group, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and other Republican politicians addressed the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Houston Friday, celebrating the defeat of gun legislation in the Senate, assailing the media, and offering a strong defense of the powerful lobbying organization,” NBC News reports.

Immigration Could Lead to Armed Revolt

One of the things that concerns my constituents — the majority of my constituents — is the appointments that are now being made in Washington by our President and the way he is handling the illegal immigrants, nationalizing them and giving them the opportunity to vote, and wanting to keep track of our guns. They are worried that they are going to have to use these guns because of our own government. Now is there anything in Washington that says — any telltale signs that maybe we might be headed for an internal revolution given the fact that these kinds of things are going on?

— New Hampshire State Rep. Edmond Gionet (R), quoted by Think Progress, warning immigration reform could spark a revolution.

Why an Angry Obama Is a Good Thing

During the chaotic week of the Boston bomb attacks, Barack Obama finally did something a lot of people had been waiting for: He got angry. In public. In the Rose Garden. It happened after the Senate had shamefully failed to pass a bill, favored by the overwhelming majority of Americans, requiring background checks for gun purchasers … To which I say, Bring it on, Mr. President. Obama’s anger served a larger purpose. It was directed at the plague affecting–no, paralyzing–our public life: the ability of well-funded extremist groups to thwart the will of the overwhelming majority. This is a problem that goes well beyond the gun issue.

Gun-Rights Activists Exploit Native Americans (Again)

Some local folks in Greeley, Colo., decided they’d make a statement about protecting their Second Amendment rights by exercising their First Amendment right while ignoring the privacy rights of Native Americans by using this image without permission on a couple of billboards.

Greeley resident Kerri Salazar, who is of Native American descent, told local TV station KJCT she was livid when she learned about it. She said she doesn’t have a problem with the apparently pro-gun rights message, she’s offended the Native American people were singled out, apparently without their consent.
