Taibbi: Administration a Series of ‘Spasmodic Trump Failures’

“Some see in all these maneuverings an effort to purge GOP loyalists like Spicer and Priebus. Others see a Nixonian lunge to hire thugs in a crisis. This to me is all overthinking things. There is no strategy. This White House is just a succession of spasmodic Trump failures, with a growing line of people taking the fall for each of them. You can fall with honor, or without, entertainingly or not. But if you join this White House, fall you will. It’s only a matter of time.”

Majority Says White House in Chaos

60%

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll finds 60% of Americans say the Trump administration is running somewhat or very chaotically, compared to only 33% who say it is running well. The survey was conducted entirely prior to the ouster of Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director, and was already in the field when Reince Priebus left the chief of staff position.

Trumpians Using Chaos to Mask Substance

We can’t stress this enough: Watch closely the specific, substantive moves of the Trump White House. Try to block out the white noise of outlandish statements and unforced errors, and the hyperventilating they provoke. … Otherwise, you miss the big — and in some cases, radical — changes coming our way. In fact, White House officials tell us they welcome what seem like needless distractions, because it allows them to jam through transformative, disruptive ideas and orders without focused public scrutiny of any particular item.
