Justice Dept. Takes Action Against North Carolina GOP’s Voter Suppression Laws
Another humiliation for my old home state. Until now, North Carolina was one of the few Old Confederacy states that was not covered by the Voting Rights Act, because, unlike the others, the Democrats who ran the state insisted that voting be open to all who were eligible. Now, just 10 months electing the first Republican-controlled government since the 1870s, those days are over. If the Justice Department prevails, NC will be covered by the VRA just like every other state run by neo-Confederates, and will have to submit its plans for changing voter regulations to the courts in advance for approval.
Worked Before
Republicans think they’ll be able to blame a shutdown on Democrats based on their experience of blaming 9/11 on Saddam Hussein.

Politico Reporter Smelled Booze on House Floor Saturday Night When GOP Voted to Shut Down Govt
This would explain a lot:
I'm not over exaggerating when I say I can smell the booze wafting from members as they walk off the floor.

Don’t Go Rubio!
Some think Marco Rubio is the GOP’s brightest and best,
Though recent polls show him lagging behind the rest.
But if Rubio runs for prez,
Better hold on to your fez,
‘Cause that would leave his seat open for that nutjob Allen West.
GOP Still Trying to Ram Through Romney’s 2012 Economic Plan
The fact that a major party could even propose anything like this is a display of astonishing contempt for democratic norms. Republicans ran on this plan and lost by 5 million votes. They also lost the Senate and received a million fewer votes in the House but held control owing to favorable district lines. Is there an example in American history of a losing party issuing threats to force the majority party to implement its rejected agenda?
— Jonathan Chait, looking at the Republican list of demands to raise the debt ceiling and concluding, “It’s Mitt Romney’s 2012 economic plan. Almost word for word, in fact.”
Obamacare — ‘Get Over It’
The Affordable Care Act was approved by Congress and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. It is the law of the land. Get over it … and get out of the way so I can help my people.
— Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D), writing in the New York Times, in defense of President Obama’s health care law.
Apparently, the Lord Overturned Tom DeLay’s Conviction
I just thank the Lord for carrying me through all of this. It really drove my detractors crazy because I had the joy of Jesus in me, and they didn’t understand it.
— Former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX), quoted by the Washington Examiner, on his money laundering conviction being overturned.
‘Tailgunner’ Ted Cruz Is the Wingnut’s Choice for GOP Prez Candidate in 2016
20%
Of Republican primary voters said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is now the top choice to be their presidential candidate in 2016, a new Public Policy Polling survey finds. Cruz’ 20% is followed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) at 17%, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) at 14%, Jeb Bush at 11%, Sen. Marco Rubio at 10% and Rep. Paul Ryan at 10%.
Polls Show That It’s Actually Ted Cruz And His Kamikaze Caucus Who Are Not ‘Listening to the People’
Prior to a new spate of polls released this week, a core element of rhetoric by Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz and Speaker John Boehner was that Pres. Obama should “listen to the people” and kill the Affordable Care Act.
Now, however, polling indicates that it is the GOP that is not listening to people. They are on the wrong side of public opinion about defunding Obamacare as well as on their threats to close the government and/or ruin the credit-worthiness of the United States by forcing a default on the national debt.
