Stock Market Not Into Obamacare Delay

128

Points the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell as it closed on Monday, after House Republicans continued to threaten a government shut-down if implementation of the Affordable Care Act isn’t delayed a year. What would happen during that year to change the ACA, which was passed by Congress, upheld by the Supreme Court, and signed by the president, is unspecified.

If You Have a Sister, Be Thankful She’s Not Like Liz Cheney

In 2004, Dick Cheney proved that even conservative Republicans are one gay child away from a sensible view on marriage. In 2012, Liz Cheney is proving that Republicans will sell out a sibling to win a primary.

— LOLGOP, National Memo columnist, noting that Wyoming Senate candidate Liz Cheney declared herself against marriage equality in an effort to prove she is even more conservative than incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi. Cheney’s sister, Mary, is openly gay.

Breaking News: Pensito Review Uncovers Stunning Evidence That Rightwing Radio Host Is Right — Bin Laden Situation Room Pic WAS Photoshopped

Some people laughed when American Family Association member Bryan Fischer claimed that the famous photo taken in the White House Situation Room during the raid that captured and killed Osama bin Laden was Photoshopped. Fischer said that Obama was added in later because his head appears smaller than anyone else’s in the room, but Pensito Review has found evidence, after scrutinizing the photo anew, that there does indeed seem to be something amiss in the famous shot that only the use of Photoshop can explain.

Even Seniors Are Starting to Dislike Republicans

Remember when Republicans held their noses and voted for Mitt Romney in 2012? The results showed that really, really hating Candidate A isn’t enough to overcome feeling pretty meh about Candidate B.

A new poll, from a Democratic polling group, shows the same scenario heading into 2014.

Just 28 percent of voters 65 and older had a favorable view of the Republican Party in a national survey conducted last month by the Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg, versus 40 percent who had a positive view of the Democrats. That’s a reversal from a poll Greenberg conducted in early 2011, when 43 percent of seniors saw Republicans favorably and 37 percent saw Democrats that way.

“It is now strikingly clear that [seniors] have turned sharply against the GOP,” Erica Seifert, a senior associate at Greenberg’s firm, wrote on the company’s website this week. “We have seen other voters pull back from the GOP, but among no group has this shift been as sharp as it is among senior citizens.”

And yet, seniors still say they will vote Republican. For now.

Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence: ‘Trayvon is Dead Because a Man with a Violent History Was Allowed to Carry a Gun’

The Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence issued a statement following the verdict which exonerated George Zimmerman for killing Trayvon Martin. The statement reminds us that Trayvon would be alive today if people like George Zimmerman, who has never even had the decency to say he’s sorry for the mistakes he made the night he harassed and then shot an unarmed 17-year-old, were not trusted to carry a concealed handgun.

Even Rick Perry once said, “Oops.”

Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence today called the verdict, “part of a tragic event that could have easily been prevented.”

Gross said, “There is sharp disagreement over the verdict, but there can be no disagreement over the reason why Trayvon Martin is dead. George Zimmerman had a gun that night, and the state of Florida allowed him to carry it virtually anywhere despite a violent history. […]

Peggy Noonan Auditions for the Role of “The New Phyllis Schlafly” on Live TV

Noonan

If you missed former Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonan’s over-the-top performance on ABC’s This Week, Wonkette can catch you up, in superb Wonkette style. The site has the video of Noonan, known for her soaring grandiloquence, gagging verbosity and tortured, drawn-out articulation, condescending over the filibuster by Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis.

Wonkette also points out the ridiculousness of Noonan, who is 62, dismissing Davis, who is 50, as the victim of youthful enthusiasm.

On the one hand, she’s very impressed with “the story of this young woman, she’s so spirited. You know, she has such energy and she seems to have such commitment.” You know, the young woman who is 50 years old and has been in the Texas Senate for four years, after a decade of serving on the Fort Worth City Council, the sweet li’l thing. Sure, her youthful passion is admirable, but these kids, what do they know? Especially those 50-year-old teen moms who have learned nothing from their experience?

Is Noonan queuing up to replace Phyllis Schlafly if and when the old bird finally kicks it? If so, congratulations young lady, you got the part!

Someone Finally Puts Issa’s Past in Play

And if I were Republicans, I would say to Issa, in the parlance of his old business, “Please step away from that car.”

— David Axelrod, Democratic strategist, asserting that Republicans are approaching overreach concerning the IRS. Axelrod was alluding to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who, prior to being in Congress, was charged with grand theft auto, investigated for arson, arrested on weapons charges, and convicted of carrying an unregistered and concealed firearm.

FOX’s Lou Dobbs and Other Males Astounded, Outraged That 40% of Women Out-Earn Men

You’ve probably heard about it but you have to see it to believe it. Watch for yourself the spectacle of Republicans coming to the realization that they live in a new world — if you consider all the years of most of our lifetimes “new.”

Stuff You Really Don’t Want to Be Right About

I hope NY and NJ senators tell Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe to suck a donkey dick on disaster relief.

@rudepundit on Twitter, no doubt recalling that most Republicans, even those from the tornado-prone Midwest and prairie states, voted against providing disaster relief to the areas worst affected by super storm Sandy.
