Also, Kanye’s Not This Crazy

“If any other person…let’s say Kanye West tweeted that. The reaction would be, ‘Kanye’s off his meds again.’ But the difference is, Kanye cannot launch an intercontinental ballistic missile strike against North Korea with one push of a button.”

— Former Obama senior advisor Dan Pfieffer, on the must-listen podcast, “Pod Save America,” commenting on Trump’s tweets attacking Morning Joe cohost Mika Brzezinski

On Trump’s Twitter Wars: Did People Not Know He Was a Snake When They Voted for Him?

All we can say about the conduct of Donald Trump in his Twitter attacks on the Morning Joe anchors is the parable that he himself reminded us of while campaigning: You knew he was a snake when you picked him up.

Now what were we talking about before all this started? Oh yeah, financing a capital gains tax for rich people by taking away Medicaid. Gosh, I forgot all about that. Maybe that was the idea?

The Hug That Wasn’t? Ivanka Turns to Stone Under Threat of Rubio’s Affection

There’s a caption contest on Twitter for this photo of an eager Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) hugging Ivanka Trump without actually touching any of Ivanka’s parts. The contest was started by “AltEPA,” whose Twitter handle is @ActualEPAFacts, and who is worthy of your “following” consideration.

The shot makes you wonder just how tall “Little Marco,” as Ivanka’s dad calls him, is. A search came up with this article detailing the heights of the 2016 presidential candidates, along with heights of the past presidents. It offers this caveat at the beginning:

For the record, Rubio is listed at 5’10” in our chart but we have heard from well informed Florida sources that he is more like 5’8″.

Judging by the photo, we’re going to say those Florida sources are onto something. Ivanka, from what we could find, is 5’11” in her stocking feet, and Little Marco’s eyes are about level with her mouth.

Got a caption of your own for this shot? Leave it in the comments section. FYI, “Daddy does it too” was already used on the Twitter feed.

Finally, a Way to Stomach Trump’s Tweets

A POTUS tweet turned statement dated June 6, 2017
A POTUS tweet turned official statement dated June 6, 2017 — seven months after the 2016 election

I quit following @POTUS on Twitter when the account became Trump’s, and quit @realDonaldTrump at the same time. I didn’t want to see tweets from 45, or award him one more follower.

But a new bot, which turns Trump’s tweets into the official White House press statements that they actually are, is making me reconsider allowing messages from the current office holder.

Protestors Deliver a Message to U.S. Rep Joe “You Lie” Wilson

You remember Joe Wilson. He’s the congressman from South Carolina’s 2nd District (Columbia) who made himself famous for his unprecedented rudeness when you screamed, “You lie” at Pres. Obama during a 2009 address to Congress.

This time it was Wilson being called a liar, during a town hall meeting with constituents in Graniteville, SC.

Wilson, who voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act in 2013, was telling the crowd about how he tried to ensure that, “all efforts to make sure that violence against women is fully enforced” when those in attendance begged to differ.

If you’ve forgotten Wilson’s outburst at Obama, here’s a reminder.

The Deeper Meaning of Sean Spicer’s Cheeseballs

The actual cheese balls in question.
The actual cheese balls in question.

This is not a story from The Onion.

What really happened, according to CNN:

In an awkward moment Friday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer abruptly asked that his daily on-camera press briefing be “off camera,” causing the pool camera to turn away from Spicer as he spoke. Viewers of networks carrying the briefing watched as the pool camera panned right and focused on a big container of cheese puffs that was sitting on a table.

Is it just coincidence that the prez himself is not only considered a cheeseball, but is also orange? The press secretary is as silent on the matter as those cheese flavored puffs. We think the largely symbolic and possibly diversionary recent Syrian airstrike that Spicer avoided talking about by focusing on the orange ones is the more compelling topic.

Al Gore is Back, Just in Time

I woke up thinking about the disheartening news yesterday that Trump is doing his level best to set back Obama’s efforts to avert climate change. And then I saw this video, and realized that Al Gore is still out there somewhere, plugging away at making it better. As Gore put it in his response to Trump’s announcement:

No matter how discouraging this executive order may be, we must, we can, and we will solve the climate crisis. No one man or group can stop the encouraging and escalating momentum we are experiencing in the fight to protect our planet.
