A couple of days ago, BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski (@BuzzFeedAndrew) tweeted this:

And here’s the petition:

That’s genocide by United Nations Convention, Article II, part c:
“Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
We petition the President to end White Genocide in the United States, and to call for the end of White Genocide in Europe, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Supporting White Genocide is not anti-racist. It’s anti-white!

Thankfully, the petition had only 388 signatures when I first viewed it, and has only gained about 10 more in the days since.
But when I read on Media Matters that a white nationalist group was one of the sponsors behind the upcoming “Gun Appreciation Day,” and is trying to hide its involvement, something rang a bell. Especially this part:
According to its mission statement, “The American Third Position Party believes that government policy in the United States discriminates against white Americans, the majority population, and that white Americans need their own political party to fight this discrimination.” The group also states that it “exists to represent the unique political interests of white Americans. It exists to maintain the identity, culture, and way of life of the American people, whose forefathers, from a vast wilderness, carved out an awe-inspiring extension of Western civilization, in order that their progeny–us–might live in relative peace and prosperity.”
And here’s where it gets really interesting.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) categorizes A3P as a white nationalist hate group, and states that it is a “political party initially established by racist Southern California skinheads that aims to deport immigrants and return the United States to white rule. The group is now led by a coterie of prominent white nationalists.”

Bingo.
When you visit the Gun Appreciation Day website, you will find a list of sponsors comprised almost entirely of gun dealers, gun ranges, and pro-gun groups with names like “OccupyBawlStreet,” “100% Fed Up!” and “Wake Up America” whose greatest wish seems to be that someday a (black) criminal will walk through their doors and give them the golden opportunity to kill a human being with no legal consequences.
Almost every logo is red, white, and blue but white seems to be a big part of what this movement is all about. There’s even a sponsor called “WhiteoutPress,” which links to a conspiracy site that starts out by asking how the story of Princess Diana’s death gained so much mainstream media coverage so fast. Must be a conspiracy, right?
Gun nuts are doing nothing to rehabilitate their image as deranged white folks, and Gun Appreciation Day, set for the three-day Martin Luther King Jr. birthday holiday and the latest in a long line of rightwing assaults on King’s legacy, promises to help even less.
