You Almost Feel Sorry for the Tea Party. But Not Quite

This is hard for me to process. With all the debt, all the unemployment and the bad economic indicators, how is it that Obama is only 2.5 percentage points down from where he was in 2008?

— Soon to be former state Rep. Scott Plakon (Longwood), who lost his seat in the Florida House on Tuesday. Plakon was author of the first of 12 tea party inspired state constitutional amendments — the one that would have exempted Florida from healthcare reform, aka Obamacare. Only the three most innocuous amendments were accepted by voters, who turned down Plakon’s along with restrictions on abortion and more tax cuts for industry. Plakon and other tea party members are struggling to understand why sentiment in the country isn’t as portrayed on FOX News. They might start by taking another look at those “bad economic indicators,” which have been steadily improving for about two years.

His Wife Didn’t Vote and He Didn’t Win

If she had just been able to get in to vote, we wouldn’t be going through any of this. You never think it will come down to one vote, but I’m here to tell you that it does.

— Bobby McDonald, who “learned the hard way that every vote counts,” the Kentucky Enquirer reports. McDonald “finished in a dead heat Tuesday with Olivia Ballou for the sixth and final seat on the Walton City Council. Each candidate captured 669 votes, but one ballot McDonald is sure would have gone his way was never cast. His wife, Katie, who works nights … didn’t make it to the polls yesterday.”

Darwin Garnered Nearly 4,000 Write-In Votes

4,000

Number of write-in votes Charles Darwin, the 19th-century naturalist who laid the foundations for evolutionary theory, received against Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), the Athens Banner-Herald reports. A campaign asking voters to write-in Darwin’s name in Georgia’s 10th congressional district began after Broun called evolution and other areas of science “lies straight from the pit of hell.”

Now This Guy Is a Sore Loser!

All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them. They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt…. I strongly urge all other libertarians to do the same. Are you married to someone who voted for Obama, have a girlfriend who voted ‘O’. Divorce them. Break up with them without haste. Vow not to attend family functions, Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas for example, if there will be any family members in attendance who are Democrats.

— Former Ron Paul aide Eric Dondero, asserting that the only recourse to President Obama’s re-election is “outright revolt” and therefore is launching a “personal boycott” of Democrats.

Dick Morris: Romney Winning with 325 Electoral Votes Would Be a ‘Landslide’ – But When Obama Wins with 332, It’s a ‘Squeaker’

Dick Morris, so aptly named, is always wrong. But he has never been more wrong than he was on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox show on Halloween night when he predicted that Mitt Romney would win the presidency in a landslide:

RomneyBot Meltdown: Said to Be ‘Shellshocked’ By Loss

On “Morning Joe” today, David Frum, the former speechwriter for George W. Bush, was asked to describe the campaign message of Mitt Romney and the Republican Party in the campaign this year:

FRUM: Mitt Romney’s message is, I am going to take away Medicare from everybody under 55. I’m going to cut Medicaid for everybody by about a third. And I’m going to do that in order to finance a giant tax cut for me and my friends. And the reason I’m doing that is because half the country contributes nothing to our national endeavor. That’s his message.

The biggest surprise is that Romney himself is said to have been “shellshocked” when he learned that voters rejected his message on Election Night:
