NV Sen: Sharron Angle’s Preacher Describes Glenn Beck’s Mormon Church As a Murderous, Weird, Kooky Cult

“His religion’s a cult … The Christian community — all the Christians, theologians and scholars, all recognize that, that Mormonism is a cult. I have books in my library on cults, and it lists Mormonism right there with all these bizarre cults. Well, there must be a reason. I mean, here a member of a cult is one of the most powerful people in the United States. Doesn’t that alarm you? And his allegiance is to Salt Lake City. Something is up with that. Something’s weird. But nobody touches that. [Glenn Beck’s*] allegiance is to Salt Lake City. The Mormon church is rich, powerful, they do illegal things. They do secretive things. They’ve got all this money. They own American businesses. There’s weirdness going on there. Churches are not multi-millionaire organizations like the Mormon church. You know, there’s some weirdness with that, but nobody questions it, nobody asks one question to [Glenn Beck] and says, ‘Tell us about your faith. What does a Mormon believe?’ Ask him about the holy garments that he wears that protect him from evil. Isn’t that kooky? Ask him about getting his body parts anointed by oil. Isn’t that kooky? Ask him about when he goes to the temple and he gets baptized for dead people. Isn’t that kooky? Ask him about the hit squad of the Mormon church and why they need people to kill Mormons that go against them. Isn’t that controlling? Ask him how they shun people, then they get their family members to disown them and divorce them if they dare leave the Mormon church. Isn’t that cultish? I mean, I could go on and on. The Mormon church is a cult, and [Glenn Beck] is a powerful person in a cult, and nobody even questions it.”

– John Reed, the preacher at Sonrise Church in Reno, the home church of Nevada GOP-tea bagger Sharron Angle. *Note, however, that instead of Glenn Beck, the preacher actually referred to Angle’s opponent, Sen. Harry Reid.

The opponent started the Recession!

— South Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene’s (D) only comment to reporters at the start of his trial on charges he showed pornography to a teenaged college student. Apparently, he repeated that phrase more than a dozen times and declined to elaborate.

This is a threat to our democracy. The American people deserve to know who’s trying to sway their elections. And if we just stand by and allow the special interests to silence anybody who’s got the guts to stand up to them, our country is going to be a very different place.

— President Obama, addressing the volume and questionable sources of outside money being poured into the mid-term elections.

Palin to Do RNC Fundraiser in California, But Given Her 69% Disapproval Among Inds, GOP’s Whitman, Fiorina Will Be No-Shows

Sarah Palin will headline a fundraiser in California for the cash-strapped, deficit-spending Republican National Committee on Oct. 16. But with Palin viewed unfavorably by well over two-thirds of California’s independent voters, the state’s two top GOP candidates are sending regrets. It’s likely gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman, who just can’t seem to find good household help these days, will be cleaning toilets in her mansion. And the U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina will likely be washing her hair.

RNC Donations Down $3.8 Mil After Palin Signs Fundraising Letter in Return for RNC’s Paying Legal Bills Related to Her Ethics Charges

-$3.8 Million

Amount by which the Republican National Committee missed its fundraising goal in September after Sarah Palin signed a direct-mail letter seeking donations for the party, according to the right-wing cult-owned Washington Times newspaper. Palin signed the fundraising letter in return for the RNC’s agreement to pay $250,000 in legal bills related to various ethics charges filed against her during her brief stint as governor of Alaska.

Separately, the RNC treasurer also revealed that he had found an additional $1.7 million in unreported debt, more than doubling the Republican Party’s insovlency to $2.8 million.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee broke fundraising records in September, collecting $16 million, mostly in small amounts from enthusiastic donors.

CNN’s Firing Rick Sanchez Is More Proof That Fox Is Not a Legitimate News Organization

photos-beck-sanchez

Within 24 hours after the radio interview during which CNN anchor Rick Sanchez called Jon Stewart a bigot and complained that Jews run the media, CNN fired him. Contrast that with the fact that it has been 14 months since Glenn Beck called the president of the United States a racist. Nearly 300 advertisers have boycotted his show as a result, but Fox did not even consider firing him. What does that say about Fox?
