After Ad Stampede, Rush is a Few French Fries Short of a Happy Meal

We added a question mark in the blank spot where an ad used to run

Reality has never been Rush Limbaugh’s strong suit but his capacity for denial seems stronger than ever.

But one thing the man does know about is food, so we might have to accept his version of the effect of the advertiser exodus from his show.

The recovering drug addict has tainted the Rush brand to the point that the band “Rush” wants their good name back

…Limbaugh told his audience that the reports of advertiser defections had been greatly exaggerated by his opponents, and that the companies that pulled ads accounted for a small minority of the overall ad inventory on the 600 affiliates that carry his show.

“That’s like losing a couple of French fries in the container when it’s delivered to you at the drive-through,” Limbaugh said. “You don’t even notice it.”

I bet Rush does notice missing French fries but that’s neither here nor there. The fact is, at least 45 advertisers have (forever) pulled or (weaselly) suspended their ads from his show. As this goes to press, there is a big, blank hole on his web site where an ad used to be.

Gingrich Super PAC Rushes in to Buy Ads on Limbaugh Show

As of March 5, 11 companies had pulled their ads off Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in protest over Limbaugh’s labeling millions of American as “sluts” and prostitutes because their contraceptives are covered by insurance.

But the Los Angeles Times reports that at least one advertiser has rushed in to show support for Limbaugh’s rampant misogyny with an increased ad buy:

A spokesman for Winning Our Future, a “super PAC” backing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s presidential bid, said the group purchased more airtime. “He apologized and we’re satisfied,” said spokesman Rick Tyler, who said the group began advertising with the program two weeks ago.

The “Winning” super PAC is funded almost entirely with multimillion dollar donations from Sheldon Adelson, owner of two high-profile casinos in Las Vegas, the Venetian and the Sands. Adelson’s wife Miriam also donated millions to the Gingrich fund. The Adelsons’ donations have kept the Gingrich campaign going well past its “sell by” date.

What’s telling about this move is that Gingrich is an infamous serial philanderer who left both his first and second wives in favor of his mistresses not long after each woman had been diagnosed with a serious illness — his first wife Jackie with cancer and second wife Marianne with multiple sclerosis.

So it is likely that operatives at the pro-Gingrich PAC figured they had nothing to lose in supporting Limbaugh, because no self-respecting woman would vote for Newt Gingrich in the first place.

Radio Station Pulls the Plug on Rush

We are strong believers in the first amendment and have recognized Mr. Limbaugh’s right to express opinions that often times differ from our own, but it has never been our goal to allow our station to be used for personal attacks and intolerance. The most recent incident has crossed a line of decency and a standard that we expect of programming on KPUA.

–Hawaii radio stationi KPUA, announcing it will no longer carry Rush Limbaugh. The man himself remained on the defensive, blaming the left for his strange diatribe, and insulting former sponsors who have pulled their ads as a result of his attack on a Congressional witness.

Rush Limbaugh Is Employed by a Subsidiary of Romney’s Bain Capital

logo-bain-clear-channelThe chances that Rush Limbaugh will be fired for disparaging women whose insurance covers their contraceptives as “sluts” last week have always fallen safely within the range of slim to none. Limbaugh is, hands down, his employer’s biggest revenue producer, and even if he were caught with the proverbial live boy or dead girl, his bosses at Clear Channel Communications, a multi billion-dollar right-wing radio network based in Texas, would be hard-pressed to send him packing.

But as the controversy over his lies and smears has played out, a key factor related to the politics behind the scandal has generally been overlooked. Clear Channel is a subsidiary of Bain Capital, the firm founded by GOP presidential frontrunner, Mitt Romney in 1984. And although Romney officially resigned from Bain in 1999,he left the company with a deal in place that continues to add millions in income to Romney’s fortune every year. (These millions in revenue were the subject of a campaign controversy earlier this year when Romney was forced to admit he only pays around 15 percent in taxes on his income from Bain.)

In 2008, Bain bought Clear Channel, whose on-air roster includes such heavyweights in right-wing broadcasting as Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and, the heaviest weight of them all, Rush Limbaugh.

Earlier this year, allegations surfaced on the far right that Clear Channel’s influential on-air personalities, including Limbaugh, were in the bag for Romney and so were marginalizing fringe candidates like Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul:

Someone Please Hand Rush Limbaugh a Mirror

Collective number of wives had by Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich. New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd noted the double standard by which Limbaugh played in labeling a woman testifying before Congress about employers providing complete women’s health care coverage a slut: “Rush and Newt Gingrich can play the studs, marrying again and again until they find the perfect adoring young wife. But women pressing for health care rights are denigrated as sluts.”

I was saddened by this last rant. Can’t believe anyone finds acceptable to throw his usual apples and oranges at a woman who speaks for responsible healthcare for the female half of the population and then in the same breath says he wants to see sex videos. I guess pornography is a good thing. (I hear it is better with prescription drugs.)

Rush on the Run: Forced to Apologize as Advertisers Dump Him

Rush’s “apology” to Sandra Fluke doesn’t begin to cover it. Calling her a slut was the least of the ugliness he heaped upon her. Rush made it clear in his attack that any woman who is not ashamed enough of the fact that she has sex to keep quiet about it is a whore, a prostitute, a slut. And furthermore, he would like to get him some of that or at the very least watch videos of it online. One can only be relieved that none of Rush’s wives stuck around long enough to bear him a child, especially a daughter.

As expected, Rush’s “apology” makes it clear he still means every word he said and only regrets, like Mitt Romney, the semantics.

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

Limbaugh’s Big Mistake – Inadvertently Reveals He Is Clueless about How Birth Control Works

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

It is not surprising that Rush Limbaugh’s hateful screeds against contraception have rested on a foundation of lies. Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke most certainly did not go “before a congressional committee and essentially [say] that she must be paid to have sex.” And, as he well knows, it is employers and employees, including the women themselves — not taxpayers — who pay for the insurance that covers contraceptives. If taxpayers paid for medical care, that would be a single-payer systems, which would be, you know, socialism.

Lying is just par for the course for Limbaugh, but what is shockingly hilarious is that in his rush to label women whose birth-control pills are covered by insurance as whores, Limbaugh revealed that he is woefully ignorant about how the pill works:

What To Do About Rush Limbaugh

Want to rid the public airways of Rush Limbaugh? Go to the top.

File a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission.

Next, contact his employer, who profits from Limbaugh’s perverted rants:

Mark Mays
CEO Clear Channel Communications
200 East Basse Rd
San Antonio, TX 78209
Phone: (210) 822-2828

And finally, keep contacting the advertisers who support the Rush Limbaugh Show. I am not listing them here because, as of press time, many have discontinued their sponsorship (Quicken Loans, Sleep Train Mattress Centers, Heart & Body Extract, Oreck Upright Vacuum Cleaners, Sleep Number Beds, AutoZone, Citrix Online — aka GoToMeeting.com, GoToMyPC.com) and more are bailing by the minute.

But you might want to express to the Mitt Romney campaign how weak and mealy-mouthed their candidate sounded today, when all he could find to disagree about with Limbaugh was not what Rush said but how he said it.

“I’ll just say this, which is, it’s not the language I would have used. I’m focusing on the issues I think are significant in the country today, and that’s why I’m here talking about jobs and Ohio.”
