A new NBC News/Marist poll in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin shows President Trump’s approval underwater: In Michigan, 36% of residents statewide approve of his job performance, and 55% disapprove;
in Pennsylvania, 33% approve of how President Trump is doing in his post, and 52% disapprove; in Wisconsin, the president’s score is similarly upside down, 33% to 56%.

Goldman Sachs Predicts 50:50 Odds of Government Shutdown

Goldman Sachs believes there is a 50% chance that the federal government will experience a short shutdown next month, CNBC reports. From the statement: “Presidential approval continues to decline, and is the lowest for any first-term president in his first year in office. Low approval ratings raise legislative risks. In the near term, we believe there is a 50% chance of a brief government shutdown, as the president seeks to solidify support among his base by embracing more controversial positions.”

Missouri Lawmaker Hopes for Trump Assassination

Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D), reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: “With five written words Thursday morning, one of Missouri’s most controversial state lawmakers spawned a U.S. Secret Service investigation, potentially endangered her own political career — and flung St. Louis squarely into the middle of America’s raging racial-political debate in the wake of the unrest in Charlottesville, Va. … She quickly deleted her post, but not quickly enough. By mid-afternoon, the political verdicts of her own party were rolling in.”

Republicans Back Trump On Charlottesville

A new Survey Monkey poll finds most Republicans support President Trump’s view of the violence in Charlottesville. When presented with a verbatim quote from President Trump on Tuesday — “You had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent” — more disagree than agree, 53% to 43%. However, Republicans agreed, 87% to 11%.
