At Least 138 Deported from the U.S. to El Salvador Were Murdered

138

Associated Press: “At least 138 people deported to El Salvador from the U.S. in recent years were subsequently killed, Human Rights Watch says in a new report that comes as the Trump administration makes it harder for Central Americans to seek refuge here. … The organization also confirmed at least 70 cases of sexual assault or other violence following their arrival in the country.”

Trump Has Deported Fewer than Obama

260,000

Washington Post: “Though President Trump has made cracking down on immigration a centerpiece of his first term, his administration lags far behind President Barack Obama’s pace of deportations. Obama — who immigrant advocates at one point called the ‘deporter in chief’ — removed 409,849 people in 2012 alone. Trump, who has vowed to deport ‘millions’ of immigrants, has yet to surpass 260,000 deportations in a single year.”
