Why Did Gov. Rick Scott Attend Washington Insider Event?
Much has been made of how the White House Correspondents’ annual dinner has become a celebrity fest. Everyone from Cee Lo Green to Bristol Palin to Paula Abdul attended, along with journalists. But can someone please explain to me why Tea Party Republican Gov. Rick Scott felt he needed to leave Florida to be there? Scott can be clearly seen checking to see if it’s O.K. with Donald to laugh at the Trump jokes, at about 1:40 on the right of the screen. Is this what Florida hired Scott to do?
As a side note, while Trump and Scott certainly share the crazy, their hairstyles offer an interesting contrast. Who says the GOP isn’t full of diversity?

Boos for Bozo: Rick Scott Strikes Out with Ceremonial Pitch
A movement was spawned last month, after boos erupted for Florida Gov. Rick Scott at a Florida spring training camp game between the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. Floridians who still haven’t totally given up on the idea of a recall election found a shorter-term strategy: boo at the governor every chance we get.
And so a Facebook page was born. “Boo Rick Scott on Opening Day (even if you’re not going to the game)” had 1,211 likes before Scott took the field to throw the opening pitch at the first regular season game for the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
Scott was throwing the ball a day after announcing devastating cuts to services to the developmentally disabled that will force many out of group homes and into much more expensive — and depressing — nursing homes. It also came the same week that consumer advocates and industry experts called for an investigation into Scott’s dismissal of nursing home ombudsman Brian Lee, widely seen as a payback to the nursing home industry for its deep pockets in support of his campaign.

Portion of Florida Republicans who approve of Gov. Rick Scott’s job after less than two months, according to Public Policy Polling (PPP). Only 11% of Democrats approve. Scott’s race to the bottom is especially impressive compared to other Republican Tea Party governors: Wisconsin’s Scott Walker stands at 86% with Republicans, Ohio’s John Kasich is at 71%, and Michigan’s Rick Snyder has a 68% approval with GOP voters.

When it counted in November, 48.9% of Floridians voted for Scott, 47.7% for Sink, setting a record for close elections. But like the Tea Party as a whole, Scott’s popularity might have peaked in the fall of 2010. Only 32% approve of his job performance, the same percentage of Americans who continue to approve of the Tea Party.
Fla. Gov. Rick Scott’s Big Government Program to Drug Test State Workers Could Cost Taxpayers $23.5 Mil Per Year

Last week, Florida’s already wildly unpopular new Republican governor, Rick Scott, issued an executive order requiring state employees to submit to drug tests at least four times a year.
Last night, Rachel Maddow cited Scott’s order to illustrate the wide gap between Republican campaign rhetoric about small government and the sort of big-government policies they pursue when they get elected.
“Floridians deserve to know that those in public service, whose salaries are paid with taxpayer dollars, are part of a drug-free workplace,” Scott said, when he announced the order. “Just as it is appropriate to screen those seeking taxpayer assistance, it is also appropriate to screen government employees.”
Scott has only lived in Florida for a few years and so was not in the state in 1998 when an earlier government experiment with drug-testing poor people proved not to be cost-effective. At a cost of $90 per test, the program was zilched after it failed to produce evidence of widespread drug abuse among people on public assistance.
