Bachmann’s Polling Implodes – Did She Tell One Lie Too Many?

A new USA Today/Gallup poll finds that support for the presidential campaign of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is imploding:

The survey, taken Thursday through Sunday, charts a GOP field that seems headed toward a showdown between Perry, with 31 percent backing, and Romney, at 24 percent.

The only other candidate in double digits is Texas Rep. Ron Paul, at 13 percent. Support for Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann has plummeted to 5 percent.

Veteran Republican strategist Ed Rollins, who resigned as Bachmann’s campaign manager earlier this month, says the results could signal “a drawn-out process” and extended primary fight between Perry and Romney, both of whom are likely to have ample money and other resources.

But for Bachmann, he says, “The only way she can get back in this race is to somehow win Iowa,” which holds the opening caucuses early next year.

It’s hard to know what has caused the collapse of Bachmann’s polling. It may well be that her base of hard-right, proudly ignorant Republican voters found that they prefer Texas Gov. Rick Perry over her because, well, he’s a man and she is not.

It’s also possible that she got caught telling one lie too many.

Physician: Because of Bachmann’s Lie, ‘More People Will Die from Cervical Cancer’

Reuters:

Physicians are bracing for more parents to refuse the HPV vaccine, which protects against the most common cause of cervical cancer, for their daughters.

They say the comments by the Republican candidate will only stoke growing and unfounded fears about a whole class of common immunizations needed to fight disease.

“There are people out there who, because of this kind of misinformation, aren’t going to get their daughter immunized,” said Dr. Kenneth Alexander, a pediatric infectious disease expert at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

“As a result, there will be more people who die from cervical cancer,” Alexander said in a telephone interview.

Dr. Mary Anne Jackson, an infectious disease expert at Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics in Kansas City, Missouri, said doctors are already struggling to convince parents to immunize girls against HPV, a sexually transmitted virus.

“There will be repercussions of this comment that will directly impact every provider who takes care of adolescents and young women,” Jackson said in a telephone interview.

Prophetess Michele Bachmann: God Sent Earthquake, Hurricane to Smite ‘Politicians’ Because of Govt Spending

I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, “Are you going to start listening to me here?” Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.

Deep Throat: Photo of Perry and a Corndog Won’t Help with the Gay Rumors

Photo Rick Perry going down on a footlong corndog

Given that the top auto-suggestion for Google searches on Rick Perry is “is rick perry gay,” the governor of Texas — who was the subject of unsubstantiated gay rumors in 2004 and recently held a “methinks he doth protest way too much” religious conclave paid for by the American Family Association, an official anti-gay hate group, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center — might want to be more careful about what he’s photographed stuffing into his mouth.

Back in the day, presidential candidates had minders who warned them against doing things that could prove embarrassing later on — like asserting that the Revolutionary War battles of Concord and Lexington took place in New Hampshire or that America’s slave owning Founding Fathers “worked tirelessly” to end slavery — or stuffing a footlong corndog in your mouth in front of cameras.

But I guess we can say that, now, as America sits on the brink of becoming a true idiocracy, the days when campaign operatives protected their candidate’s image are gone forever.

Marcus Bachmann Tries to Prove He is 100% Heterosexual

It seems Michele Bachmann’s husband Marcus has heard the speculation about his sexuality and is determined to prove that he is 100 percent heterosexual. Over the weekend in Iowa, first he elbowed and shoved Don Lemon, an openly gay CNN anchor. Now comes this photo showing him exchanging spit with a political supporter.

And speaking of the Bachmann’s oral fixations on display in Iowa this weekend, there’s this bizarre but hilarious, almost NSFW photo of his wife Michele enjoying a footlong hotdog.

Bachmann Pushes Corn Dog Envelope

So I took a fair amount of heat for suggesting that Michele Bachmann might not want to wear a plunging neckline that exposes lots of her chestal area while working crowds. You know, all that leaning forward to shake hands, pinch baby cheeks, and squeeze the shoulders of wheelchair users and what-not.

But we are now entering unimagined territory. A FOOT-LONG CORN DOG? Really, Michele Bachmann? And we are supposed to gaze at this action shot and simply say, “Huh. Looks like a good corn dog. That’s all I see.”

O.K., I’ll try to only see a corn dog and not see a person with a serious lack of imagination about how a foot-long corn dog being inserted into a woman’s open mouth while she reaches to grasp it with two hands might look. I will also try not to see a person who should never, ever, ever be president.
