Mitt Romney Alleged to Have Committed Perjury in Staples CEO’s Divorce Trial – Mitt Was Also Accused of Perjury in 2002

Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred has a pretty good track record when it comes to lobbing political bombshells. In 2010, she permanently hobbled the gubernatorial campaign of Mitt Romney’s friend Meg Whitman with the revelation that Whitman had employed an undocumented worker for years and then tried to cover it up.

More recently, Allred was instrumental in bringing then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s extramarital affair with his housekeeper to light, providing proof, finally, that Schwarzenegger was a scumbag philanderer — a fact that had been common knowledge in Hollywood for decades for the action star ran for governor.

Now Allred is investigating testimony provided by Romney during divorce proceedings for Staples CEO Tom Stemberg and his then-wife Maureen Sullivan. In the testimony, Romney is alleged to have helped Stemberg conceal the true worth of Staples Inc. from the court.

Another Romney Lie: Obama Has Not ‘Doubled’ the Federal Deficit, He Has Reduced It by Billions of Dollars

chart-deficit-reduction-under-obama

In the presidential debate, Mitt Romney said, “The president said he’d cut the deficit in half. Unfortunately, he doubled it.”

Unsurprisingly, the notion that the deficit has doubled over the last three years is a lie:

Late Friday afternoon, the Treasury Department published the official report on the U.S. budget deficit for the most recent fiscal year: $1.089 trillion. While that’s obviously still a very large budget shortfall, the deficit is $200 billion smaller than it was last year, and is nearly $300 billion smaller than when President Obama took office.

Even Politifact agrees, FWIW.

Ohio Photo Op Flop: Paul Ryan Pretends to Wash Already Clean Pot in Empty Homeless Shelter

The Romney-Ryan campaign sent Paul Ryan and his family to a homeless shelter in Ohio yesterday so that the press could take photos of them serving a meal to the needy. When the Ryan entourage arrived at the shelter, the meal service was over, the diners had left the hall and the volunteer staff had cleaned the room and washed the dishes.

Lyin’ Ryan: In Debate, He Claimed Three Times That the Obama Administration Called Syria’s Assad a ‘Reformer’ – It Was a Triple Lie

In three separate instances during the vice presidential candidates’ debate last night, Paul Ryan falsely accused the Obama administration of referring to Syrian dictator Bashar Assad as a “reformer”:

Alternet Debunks Romney’s 10 Biggest Debate Lies

graphic-romney-debate-liesMitt Romney’s blizzard of lies strategy in his first debate with Pres. Obama was highly effective, if the post-debate polls are accurate.

But now that the smoke has cleared, fact checkers are going through the mountain of BS Romney left on the stage trying to sort fact from fiction. Alternet published this list of Romney’s most shameless lies from the debate:

Romney: ‘The President Has Not Signed One New Free Trade Agreement in the Past Four Years’ – Wrong, Mitt, He’s Signed Three Trade Bills

I will champion free trade and restore it as a critical element of our strategy, both in the Middle East and across the world. The President has not signed one new free trade agreement in the past four years. I will reverse that failure.

– Mitt Romney, telling a bold-face lie in his foreign policy speech yesterday. Pres. Obama signed three free-trade bills — with Colombia, Panama and South Korea — last October. Some fact-checkers give Romney a pass because these bills were not technically “new.” Initial negotiations had started under the previous administration. But if we’re going to quibble, the president has not been in office for “four years,” so it’s dishonest to criticize him for trade bills that did not get signed in the last three and a half months of the Bush administration.

Despite Rules at Univision Forum, Romney Packed Audience with Political Operatives and Supporters

Buzzfeed:

[Maria Elena Salinas, one of the Univision anchors who moderated the forums] told BuzzFeed that tickets for each forum were divided between the network, the respective campaigns, and the University of Miami (which hosted the events) — and she said both campaigns initially agreed to keep the audience comprised mostly of students, in keeping with the events’ education theme.

But after exhausting the few conservative groups on campus, the Romney camp realized there weren’t enough sympathetic students to fill the stands on their night — so they told the network and university that if they weren’t given an exemption to the students-only rule, they might have to “reschedule.”

The organizers relented. One Democrat with ties to the Obama campaign noted that Rudy Fernandez, the university official charged with coordinating the forums, is a member of Romney’s Hispanic steering committee…

Romney’s team was allowed to bus in rowdy activists from around southern Florida in order to fill the extra seats at their town hall.

Wrong, Mitt, George W. Bush, Not Pres. Obama, Was America’s ‘Apologizer-in-Chief’

With his poll numbers sinking, Mitt Romney took desperation action earlier this week by falsely claiming that the U.S. Embassy in Cairo had issued a statement expressing sympathy for protesters who were agitated by a YouTube video allegedly produced by right-wing anti-Islamic activists in the suburbs of Los Angeles that besmirched the Prophet Mohammed.

The lie that Pres. Obama went on some sort of “apology tour” has been debunked multiple times.

The embassy issued the statement at 6 a.m., East Coast time, before the protests in Cairo had turned violent. After 10 p.m. in the East Coast, fully 16 hours after the Cairo embassy’s initial statement — during which Team Romney had plenty of time to deliberate and discuss what to do — they issued a statement condemning the embassy for expressing sympathy with “those who waged the attacks,” even though they knew the attacks had not begun when the embassy released its statement.

In a subsequent press availability, Romney deliberately used the word “apology” or variations of it five times to describe the embassy’s statement — which did not include the word “apology” or any variation or sentiment thereof. During the news conference, Romney also made it clear that he held Pres. Obama accountable, not only for the embassy’s “apology,” but for anything and everything anyone who worked for administration said:

Who Said What When Regarding Libyan Attacks

obamaclinton
Obama on Wednesday, Sept. 12: 'Make no mistake. Justice will be done.'

Here is the the series of events concerning the attacks on Americans in the Middle East, in chronological order.

For the tea partiers out there, “chronological” is a big word that means in the order in which things happened, starting with the first thing and moving through time to the most recent thing.

For Republicans, it means that your version is a lie.

  • Moronic publicity whore Pastor Terry Jones, not content to have caused the death of 12 people by threatening to hold a public Koran burning, promotes a new YouTube video further baiting Muslims. The film, made by Sam Bacile, a 52-year-old Israeli-American real-estate developer who lives in California, depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a pedophile and womanizer, and shows him having sex. It was posted online in July but was dubbed in Arabic on Sept. 4. Since then, a trailer for the film was heavily reported in Egypt.
