The Zealotry Prayer
Here’s one from the archives:
Lord, save us from the Islamists,
And while you’re at it, the Christianists.
And save us from the Jews
And the holy rollers, too,
For we are humble zealot-fearing atheists, Amen.
Louisiana Lawmaker Says Obama Defended ISIS
I was very disappointed, although not surprised. The president has said many things that just seem so unpresidential, and this was no exception. … Not only did he vilify Christianity, but he actually made a case to defend radical Islam, that’s killing people around the world. He actually defended what they were doing, and tried to draw some sort of twisted equivalency, moral equivalency, between what they’re doing today and what Crusaders did 800 years ago. It really, it was really weird.
— Rep. John Fleming (R-LA), asserting that President Obama’s speech to the National Prayer Breakfast last week in which he drew a historical comparison between atrocities committed by Islamic State fighters and past “terrible deeds in the name of Christ” were “unpresidential” and actually defended ISIS, BuzzFeed reports.
Obama Offends ‘Christians’ by Comparing Crusades to Islamist Atrocities
Lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.
— President Barack Obama, at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast, which was attended by the Dalai Lama. Christianists were quick to retaliate: “Rush Limbaugh devoted a segment of his show to what he said were the president’s insults to the “whole gamut of Christians” and Twitter’s right wing piled on. Guests on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show spent 15 minutes airing objections to the president’s comments,” the New York Times reports.

Mayor Gets All Profane Over Atheists
Take me to f**king court because I don’t care. Minorities are not going to run my city.
— La Vista, Neb., Mayor Douglas Kindig, quoted by the Daily Beast, on atheists questioning his town-sponsored “day of faith.”
Looks like Faith in Satan Doesn’t Count in America
This is a faith-based nation and a faith-based state. I think it is very offensive they would contemplate or even have this kind of conversation.
— Oklahoma state Rep. Earl Sears (R), quoted by Tulsa World, insisting that a Satanist religious group should not be given the same treatment as Christians.
Why Christians Should Leave the Democratic Party
Oh, Oh, oh I do believe it. I said it because I believe that the Democrat party has become an anti-God party, I think it’s an anti-life party, I think it’s an anti-family party. And these are all things I think Christians hold to very dearly.
— Virginia lieutenant governor nominee E.W. Jackson (R), asserting that the Democratic Party is “anti-God” and that Christians should leave it, Salon reports.

Jackasses of Hate
Westboro Baptist Church wants to have them some fun
At the expense of the late Ryan Dunn.
But as they broadcast their hate,
Still, we know their fate —
The jackasses will end up in hell — cooked well-done!
