It is no surprise that Republicans are trying to have it both ways when it comes to who’s responsible for shutting down the government. One minute they are high-fivin’ each other as they take credit for it, while in the next minute they’re blaming the shutdown on Democrats in the Senate. It’s also no surprise, as Trish noted earlier this week, that the “liberal” media is enabling them to have it both ways. Meanwhile, in reality, polls show that most voters see what’s really going on.

An estimated 7 million Californians are uninsured, in a state where just 52% of residents get their insurance through their employers.

Tea Baggers Claim to Love the Constitution – So How Can They Ignore It When It Gets in the Way of Their Anti-Obama Obsession?

I thought tea partyists were supposed to revere the Constitution. The Constitution lays out two ways to undo a law — repeal it through legislation or challenge it in court. Republicans have tried both routes — 42 repeals and lawsuits all the way up to SCOTUS — and it has all failed. What they’re doing now, threatening to shut down the govt and/or ruin the full faith and credit of the United States if the president refuses to submit to their demands, is not only a thuggish act of desperation, it is an affront to the constitution.

What’s worse, of course, is that they have been plotting the government shutdown since 2009, as Rachel Maddow reported last night. Not unlike their obsession with invading Iraq in 2003, they were determined to do it at any cost, all they needed was a pretext. Then it was 9/11; now it’s opening day for the Affordable Care Act.

Polls Show That It’s Actually Ted Cruz And His Kamikaze Caucus Who Are Not ‘Listening to the People’

Prior to a new spate of polls released this week, a core element of rhetoric by Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz and Speaker John Boehner was that Pres. Obama should “listen to the people” and kill the Affordable Care Act.

Now, however, polling indicates that it is the GOP that is not listening to people. They are on the wrong side of public opinion about defunding Obamacare as well as on their threats to close the government and/or ruin the credit-worthiness of the United States by forcing a default on the national debt.
