First of all, the snarky, snarly, nastiness of Sen. John “Please W., Screw Me a Little Harder Just So Long As You Let Me Be President Next” McCain (R.-Ariz.) is way understated in the news reports about his attack on Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill).
Second, everyone including NPR’s Day to Day, that frames this as “an exchange” in which one side is just as bad as the other, a la the Refrickinpublican Abramoff scandal, is flat wrong.
Don’t take my word for it. Sen. Obama has posted the actual letters for the world to see. If you don’t walk away from reading John McCain’s sarcastic, insulting, and belittling missive feeling like he’s a complete — forgive my French — shithead then check your voter registration card. It must say “Republican.”
Here’s what Obama said that Johnny evidently took such exception to:
I know you have expressed an interest in creating a task force to further study and discuss these matters, but I and others in the Democratic Caucus believe the more effective and timely course is to allow the committees of jurisdiction to roll up their sleeves and get to work on writing ethics and lobbying reform legislation that a majority of the Senate can support.
And here’s just a sample of “Hothead” McCain’s vitriol in return:
I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party’s effort to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman Senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness. Again, I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics the public interest isn’t always a priority for every one of us.
Are you feeling it yet? Barack “Real Deal” Obama took all that and still turned the other cheek, in a new letter dated today.
I confess that I have no idea what has prompted your response. But let me assure you that I am not interested in typical partisan rhetoric or posturing. The fact that you have now questioned my sincerity and my desire to put aside politics for the public interest is regrettable but does not in any way diminish my deep respect for you nor my willingness to find a bipartisan solution to this problem.
Visit the site for updates, if McCain still has the heart for showing his ass to the world.

McCains a jealous little girl. He’s staked out his turf on this issue long ago and accomplished nothing. I predict Obama rises above all these criminal legislators to capture America’s heart. The 60% of American’s not hypnotized by Bush and the Fox trot Right would love nothing more than to see the corporate lobby machine shut down permanently. We regular folk either need our own lobbying entity or these fat cats get none too. All you pricks on the right can kiss my ass. Especially John McCain.
God that felt good. If you don’t mind I’ll say that again. All you pricks on the right can kiss my ass. Especially John McCain.
Oh John McCain Your such a WHORE !
What a whiney little cry baby ! Take a midol and get over yourself !
p.s you do look like an old fart next to Obama !
While I have an issue or two about Obama, integrity
is not one. Can the same be said of ‘sorry’ j. mc cain?? How can such an alleged ‘hero’ even stomach
the coward in the white house who so insulted him?
O well, for ‘sorry john,’ it’s just ‘politics.’ Stand
Obama and McCain side by side: who exhibits or exudes
either charisma or integrity more? Hmmmmmm! Whom would you trust?
John – you “took one for the team” and it seems to have effected your “moral compass” . . . Bush lies, Gonzales lies and you whine about Obama – George “punked” you big time – now there is an INTERGRITY issue . . .
John McCain is a mad whore. Anyone who would swamllow like this guy swallows can only be called a mad whore. Every now and then, such people’s madness just leaks out their mouths. God, I’m amking myself sick. I agree with Susan. Get some meds, John, and while your at it, get some for your deeply entrenched case of the Stockholm Syndrome.
Hissssss.I had a small amount of sympathy and respect for Mc Cain,What a petty bastard!I delivered votes for Barrak and was disappointed that he went and got his israeli orientation. For now he is still clean and probably the only senator whose idealism hasn’t been corroded by DC.But this and all the leftie blogs are only preaching to the choior. When and how will we ever get to those others who think our mutual boat won’t sink when this insane administration shoots out our bow?
looks like john’s roscea has gone to his brain.
John McCain has become more and more of a whore over the years. His pissy little letter to Obama is backfiring and if he has any perception, he’s realizing how bad it was to send that letter. What a weenis.
If Obama is going to rise to be the leader of the Democrats, then he’ll have to prove he can use this to make republipigs look bad. First thing to do: Post the Letter (Check!)
Second Item to Attend To: Ignore the letter. People with Narcissitic Personality Disorder (http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis/p20-pe07.html) should never see others react to them in anything other than a calm, unemotional way. Evoking an emotional reaction in others is a big reinforcer for these people. McCain has made the first move and it was really stupid. Now, Obama must stay above the fray by acting as if the situation had never happened from this point onward.
Third, Push harder than ever for a competing bill

Yeah thoes photos of McCain huging and kissing say alot
I heard Babama say he wasn`t going to run in 2008. Iwas hoping he would even to be vice prescident Mcain must be running scared. We need for the people to vote out the REP. in the DEMS party. I think Babama was very civil.
If you read the letter that McCain wrote, you will see that what McCain is doing is to try to make it seem that the Democrates where as “in bed” with Abramoff as the Republicans. This is the basis of his anger. He wanted Obama to add credibility to this trick. Obama finally got it and the rest is history.
I have already called Senator Nelson’s office to with draw my promise to work for him at election time.

John McCain said nothing when George Bush smeared McCain’s family with racial slurs during the South Carolina primary race in 2000. And then he embraced Bush in public later. That says all that needs be said about the character and integrity of John McCain.
I don’t know, Jean. I think you hit the nail on the head about what made McCain go off but I hope you’ll reconsider not supporting Bill Nelson. As Democrats, we sometimes hold our people to standards of perfection no one can meet. I think we have to step back and look at someone’s overall record and see if, for the most part, they’re doing O.K. Bill Nelson’s total record is one of the best around, I think. And not supporting him would leave you making things better for Katherine Harris. That – and election fraud – is one way we ended up with Bush. The liberals who supported Nader because Gore wasn’t perfect enough could have changed history – and saved thousands of American, British, Iraqi, and other lives and possibly the American ideal of liberty.
William Eon you blow my sox off.
need many more obamas etc in the senate, new faces to counter the tired old ones and the dangerous newer santorum, sessions, brownback, zealots…that earlier poem above really shook me….on target
Do keep in mind, that what we are really talking about here is that the AIDE who wrote Obama’s letter is simply a better writer and not quite as much of a nut-job as the AIDE who wrote McCain’s letter.
You people don’t really think that these Senators write their own letters, do you? Oh, well, I guess the Republicans might believe that — they aren’t that bright, still thinking there was an Iraq+9/11 link and that WMD’s were found and other falsehoods like that.
McCain is posturing for 2008 and perhaps even a little mentally unstable and the result is that his staff is probably running totally scared and in circles. Expect bi-polar and oxy-moronic behavior from McCain for the next two years and then hopefully, he will drift off into the sunset to be forgotten, like so many other Republican hacks that have come before him.

Republicans are scum. They don’t deserve the oxygen they breathe. They should be wiped from the face of the earth.
I think that tumor growing in the side of his neck has spread to his friggin brain.
Big men in each party must during their careers puff up their chests and blow hot air when they are going to eventually run for President. I think that is what we are seeing here. They have to show everyone their “manly manness. Lets just hope they don’t drop their shorts in front of the cameras.
McCain is a repug, what’d you expect from a repug? They all need to be rounded up and put on an island somewhere with no escape possible.
So McCain gets Bush to sign the torture ban, and completely destroys its effectiveness, but McCain lets out the big dogs on a junior senator over the GOP’s corruption.
Way to go you maverick reformer! Bush was snorting coke off a hooker’s ass in Alabama, while you were eating cockroaches to stay alive, and you think he deserves more respect than Obama.
McCain could have grown up to be been Duke Cunningham if he hadn’t gotten shot down by a country with no airforce.
McCain could have grown up to be been Duke Cunningham if he hadn’t gotten shot down by a country with no airforce.
Well, there was that little “Keating 5” thing, the issue that forced McCain to become a big-time “reformer.” :-)
Sorry John , your a weak lying whimpering fascist.
Personally I would be a bit afraid to make the statement that STEVE W. made about them kissing my rear. Quite a few of them would consider that as an invitation and really enjoy it.
Either the Democrats get their act together and confront GWB and his cronies or we are lost. I think that the DNC consists of a bunch of OLD (mentally) characters who are so beholden to the same line holders that the Republicans are that they can’t make a move. This whole group of people are filled with INCEST and are so intermarried to the cabala that is in Washington that they can’t make a move.
A test needs to be made for Democrats. Are they willing to uphold the Constitution or be lap dogs to the power handlers.
Robert O’Donnell CWO USN(Ret) Courage to fight for our rights is not a gift but a responsibility.
Of course compared to Mr. Bush, Mr. McCain must appear to be the Vicar of politics. But take the Toad that would be Prince out of the picture and McCain is just another confabulating Republican howling at the moon.
I can’t believe McCain. Shame on him for sucking up to Bush and his cronies. McCain is putting moderates to shame. McCain finally shows your true colors that he’s a right-wing Republican who will obey Bush and the GOP like a good puppy.
Sorry John,
You’re no moderate and you are proving yourself to be a puppet to Right-Wing GOP facists. Why do you defend the GOP after the way they treated you back in 2000? And you want to run for president again…what a pity. This is the real McCain you see.
In 2004, I voted against candidates. In 2006 I am voting for candidates and if that is 3rd party then that is what it will be. I am no longer going to hold my nose and vote for a democrate, just because they are a democrate. And if a few more republicans get into office then they is what has to happen.
I will not vote for a candidate who compromises on important issues like war and corruption.
Perhaps if we all do this, then we will either have a decent 3rd party or the democrates will stop being republicans behind the mask.
But what difference will it make anyhow, who wins will be who the machines are set to win and as long as the democrates allow it to happen, that is what it will be.
My fellow Americana’s,my fellow Democrates!!
we need to do the right thing,we need to do what we wished the republicans would have done 4 years ago. we need to make sure with our votes that a bad,bad horrid man does not take the highest office in our land.
8 years ago the republicans voted for bush and we democrates were very sad, than 4 years ago we figured no way would we let that happen again, but alas bush won again. 8 years of pure hell for all to share.
but this time its not the republicans that have the horrible candidate! its us the democrates that have the horrid man that will destroy America.its is us the democrates that must do the right thing and vote for the best person running and that man is McCain.
the dnc has done everything it can to make sure we have no choice of a president.
we have never been huge Hillary supporters but she is better than obama,we would vote for her, barack we will never vote for.
do we like john McCain??? no not really!!!
do we respect john McCain??? yes we do!! he is a good man.
do we want john McCain as president?? no,but he is better than obama!!!
we are a small group of democrates called keepers that just do not think barack obama cares about our united states of America.
we keepers will vote in this election and if our choice is barack obama or john McCain,we will have no choice but to vote for john McCain.
barack obama will destory and divide our United States of America!!! We the people must stand united and stop him or divided we fall!!!
