The New Washington Mob
“America’s abrupt turn from moral beacon and defender of the free world is unsurprising, given the fundamental immorality of the Trump administration. If you have the morality of a gangster, you will behave like a gangster.”
— Noah Smith
Carville on Trump: ‘That Boy Ain’t Right’
“It’s impossible for me to ignore the events in the Oval Office earlier today. It’s stunning. I think anybody who watched it saw it. And I’m torn for an explanation, but there’s something clear. There’s an expression here in south Louisiana. It’s not totally true, but it’s you mostly hear it from Black people, and they’ll say, ‘that boy ain’t right.’ And it’ll be somebody obviously having some kind of a personality disorder or whatever. Well, when you look at Trump, the first thing that comes to your mind, that boy ain’t right.”
— James Carville, on Politicon.
Trumponomics Already Taking Toll on U.S. Economy
From the New York Times:
“The United States economy is starting to show signs of strain as President Trump’s abrupt moves to shrink federal spending, lay off government workers and impose tariffs on America’s largest trading partners rattle businesses and reverberate across states and cities.”
“Funding freezes and firings of federal workers combined with the prospect of costly trade wars are souring consumer sentiment, raising inflation expectations and stalling business investment plans, according to recent economic surveys.”
“Local economies are also bracing for a sudden withdrawal of fiscal support, forcing officials to contemplate tax increases or municipal bond offerings to stabilize their budgets. While Mr. Trump has acknowledged that his policies could bring some initial pain, the early warning signs suggest that his blunt approach could come with more ominous risks to the economy.”
