“More than a third of Americans say that illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border is at a “crisis,” up 11 percentage points since January as Democrats have grown sharply more concerned about the issue,” according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll. “At the same time, Americans assign a similar level of blame to congressional Democrats and President Trump for the situation, the survey finds, signaling that both political parties face challenges on immigration heading into the 2020 presidential election cycle.”

A new Morning Consult survey of Democrats found 36% say Joe Biden is their first choice for president, up from 30% the week before. The increase was enough to more than double his advantage over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), from 6 points to 14 points.

“A little more than a year after President Trump slapped a 20% tariff on imported washing machines, new research finds that American shoppers have been the ones to pay the price,” NBC News reports. “A study conducted by two researchers at the University of Chicago and a Federal Reserve Board Governor found that washers cost an average of 12% more after the imposition of the tariffs, or roughly $86 to $92 more per appliance.”

A new Monmouth poll finds just 12% of Americans say that their family has benefited a great deal from recent growth in the U.S. economy and another 31% say they have received some benefit from the economic upturn. A majority, though, say they have been helped either not much (27%) or not at all (27%) from the nation’s macroeconomic growth.

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 55% of respondents said they will not vote for President Trump next year, with just 39% approving of his job as president. Just 28% said they definitely would vote for Trump, while another 14% said they would consider it.

“A group of Democratic operatives are launching a $60 million political group with plans to reclaim values-laden terms like ‘freedom’ and ‘opportunity’ for their party ahead of the 2020 election,” Politico reports. “The nonprofit organization, called Future Majority, plans to provide strategic advice to other Democratic groups, as well as branding efforts, communications and a ‘war room’ that will debunk fake news and counter conservative social media.”

“It took President Trump 601 days to top 5,000 false and misleading claims in The Fact Checker’s database, an average of eight claims a day,” the Washington Post reports. “But on April 26, just 226 days later, the president crossed the 10,000 mark — an average of nearly 23 claims a day in this seven-month period, which included the many rallies he held before the midterm elections, the partial government shutdown over his promised border wall and the release of the special counsel’s report on Russian interference in the presidential election.”
