Clinton Maintaining National Lead Over Trump
8 points
The latest new NBC News/SurveyMonkey tracking poll shows Hillary Clinton continues to hold a large national lead over Donald Trump, 50% to 42%. Clinton’s 8-point advantage is virtually unchanged from her 9-point lead last week, and she has seen similar margins since the end of July.
Most Economists Favor Clinton on Economy
55%
Of professional economists said they believe Hillary Clinton would be the best choice to oversee the U.S. economy as president, according to a new National Association of Business Economics survey. Donald Trump had just 14% support, behind Libertarian Gary Johnson (15%) and “Don’t Know/No Opinion” (15%).
Trump Is Only Talking to FOX News
18
Of Trump’s 29 interviews across six networks in June were on Fox News, according to additional research provided by Media Matters. In July, he did nine interviews on Fox News and just six combined across ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC. None of these networks have had him on in August, the Huffington Post reports. “His retreat to Fox News is a remarkable change in strategic focus, having earlier pledged to win the election based on his skill at generating free media coverage… But it appears that he’s now calculated that the risk of venturing too far from the conservative-leaning network is too great.”
Trump Staffers Use Social Media to Spread Violent Hate Speech
Donald Trump’s paid campaign staffers have declared on their personal social media accounts that Muslims are unfit to be U.S. citizens, ridiculed Mexican accents, called for Secretary of State John Kerry to be hanged and stated their readiness for a possible civil war. … The campaign has employed a mix of veteran political operatives and outsiders. Most come across as dedicated, enthusiastic partisans, but at least seven expressed views that were overtly racially charged, supportive of violent actions or broadly hostile to Muslims.

Heaven Knows Dems Can’t Win Without Atheists
In an editorial in the Sunday Miami Herald, Robyn Blumner of the Center for Inquiry laid out a good case for why the Democratic Party needs to stop dissing its atheist supporters:
Atheists make up 3.1 percent of Americans and agnostics another 4 percent, according to Pew Research Center’s 2014 Religious Landscape Study and those are people willing to ’fess up to pollsters. Jews are only 1.9 percent of the population; Mormons 1.6 percent.
In other words, there are a lot of us. We are a growing and essential segment of the Democratic Party. About 69 percent identify as Democrats or lean that way, according to Pew. Atheists and agnostics give Democrats the margin of victory in election after election. Include the entirety of the “nones” — the one-in-five Americans who tell pollsters they have no religious affiliation — and we are the Democratic Party’s largest faith demographic.
About 28 percent of Democrats say they have no religious affiliation, compared with 21 percent who say they are Catholic, 16 percent who are evangelicals and 13 percent mainline Protestant.
