Surely one of the scariest characters to emerge from the primordial ooze of the Tea Party in the midterms was Alan West. You remember him — the Army colonel who exited the service not long after discharging his pistol near the head of an Iraqi detainee and the guy who thought the Outlaws motorcycle gang would make a great security detail and the guy who dismissively referred to his opponent for Congress as a “cretin.”
In case you were wondering how this whack-job got elected, here’s an ad I clipped from the Monday edition of the Miami Herald that explains everything:

There you have it — West simply appealed to “good black people.”

I clicked on the site and it felt like someone had a shot gun to my head.
As an African American, I can say without a doubt that the only AAs this ad would appeal to are stupid ones. Same race does not equal blind support for a lot of us. I wouldn’t touch Alan West with a 100 foot pole. He’s the lowest of the low in any society. I hope the AAs who voted for him on Tuesday are ready for the hurt he’s willing and ready to unleash on them, because it’s coming. The only interest West has is in himself, and he’ll do whatever he has to do to maintain his good standing among the “wonderful old boys” in the GOP. West is what we sane AAs call a good “boy,” and is in the same category with most of us as are Steele, Christie, Clarence Thomas, Keyes, Blackwell, Jackson, Alveda King, and others. They’ve forgotten where they came from, and that they owe a debt to society to help anyone who has ever stood, or stands, in their shoes.
Majiii – Also as an African America, I couldn’t agree with you more. It is appalling and embarrassing this individual was elected, even more so if he managed to dupe “ignorants” into voting for him.
So disgusted with the GOP gains this past Tuesday. In order for a democracy to succeed you need an democratically enlightened populous with the heuristic tools to find and evaluate factual information to make informed decisions. Tuesday’s results proved that a majority of this country does not meet that criteria.
We are doomed.
