God reveals the primary dates to Moses
The primary situation is getting downright comical, even as Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) pledges to veto any bill that would un-do the recent move to a Feb. 5 election.
That declaration comes after my previous pick, John Edwards, insulted my home state.
“This election, more than any other, is about real change and choosing the candidate who is going to fight for that change,†Edwards said in a statement released by his campaign Saturday. “Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina need to be first because in these states ideas count, not just money.”
All righty then. I’ve already written the Edwards campaign to ask for my tainted Florida money back.
But the topper has got to be Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.) Richardson’s claim that God Himself chose the primary dates is explored in a hilarious post on the Tampa Tribune’s blog, the Buzz.
God Likes Democratic Boycott of Florida
Well, He didn’t tell us that directly. But Bill Richardson says there’s divine support for Iowa’s status in the nominating process:
“Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord, should be the first caucus and primary,” Richardson, New Mexico’s governor, said at the Northwest Iowa Labor Council Picnic. “And I want you to know who was the first candidate to sign a pledge not to campaign anywhere if they got ahead of Iowa. It was Bill Richardson.”
Readers are having a field day making comments about Bill’s obviously caught up and overwrought oration.
And the Lord sayeth: “Let Iowa be thy first Presidential nominating stop. Lest any State move their primary election, and they shall be smote down by my very own hand.”
And it was so…and Iowans everywhere rejoiced.

While I certainly don’t want to get cross-ways with the LORD, I do think that Florida Democrats and Republicans alike should give their national party leaders and candidates a small math lesson and repeat daily as long as the goofy talk of taking away delegates or not campaigning in Florida continues…

Iowa will not reward Richardson for such blatant pandering. Florida will certainly punish him. Nice going, Bill. Fast track to zero delegates.

You left out the other part that the Lord said,”No one running for office shall come to Florida just for the money and then ignore the votes of the state.”

Meanwhile, in a good post on the Florida Progressive Coaltion blog, Brian cheers for rebellious Michigan.
They’ve moved up to January 15, which basically throws the whole schedule into chaos, and lets the DNC know that the individual states aren’t satisfied with the status quo, and dares them to start stripping more and more states of their delegates. We could easily wind up with a massive rebellion both among the candidates and the states.
And this is a good thing, in my opinion. I know I’m not alone in being upset about the outcome of the 2004 primary system, where Iowa and New Hampshire picked our candidate (and then Iowa didn’t even have the decency to vote for the guy), and I was very interested in the various ideas put forward to modify that process, including rotating regional primaries. But anything that blows up the current system will likely be an improvement.

The sudden rush to the front of the pack didn’t begin until the parties, the money men, and MSM changed the rules of the game so that primaries would effectively be concluded on Super Tuesday.
IA and NH aren’t doing anything differently from the past. If it seems they have more influence – or your particular state has less – it is your own damn fault for letting the rug be pulled out from under you by party officials and the powers that be.
Moving the primaries around is the wrong answer to the wrong problem. Get involved in the nominating rules, get involved in fund raising and make sure those funds don’t get to the candidates before they get to your states. Plan a campaign based on the fact that you might not win by Super Tuesday but you will be left standing and you plan on WINNING the latter primaries. STOP letting the media pronounce a winner because they won a couple of primaries!
EVERY state is influential until someone wins.IA, NH and SC don’t come close to that.
Stop your damn whining and get in the game rather than trying to move the date of the freaking game.
