This new poll from Quinnipiac University got it half right. As we all know, President Bush is not just the worst president since World War II, he is the Word President Ever:
Mr. Bush was chosen [as the worst] by 34 percent of the voters who participated in the the Quinnipiac Unversity survey. Richard Nixon finished second with 17 percent — just ahead of Bill Clinton with 16 percent.
Ronald Reagan was the top choice as best president, with 28 percent. Finishing second was Mr. Clinton with 25 percent.
Note that Bush’s votes were double Nixon’s.
Another interesting number is the 16 percent who think Bill Clinton was a bad president. That’s the hardcore bottom of Bush’s support — the die-hard Clinton-haters. If he manages to complete his term, Bush can always depend on the support of the truly delusional.
When you rank things, they should all be of the same kind–worst and best oranges, apples, people, and so on. In Bush’s case, was he ever a “president”? Was/is he even a human being on the same level as Lincoln or Washington or Hoover, or is he outside the ring, a mistake, a delusional psychopath who could never be president and never should have been selected as such? Who was the “worst” dictator? Stalin? Hitler? Idi Amin? George Bush?
Fair point, incredulous. When I read this on CBSNews.com, it said “Bush Worst President Since 1945”. I thought it was a typo. I thought they meant “1745” and I could agree….
Some additional info from the poll, courtesy of National Journal’s PollTrack: Quinnipiac pollsters also tested Bush’s approval rating, which, at 35 percent, is the poll’s lowest historical number — and it’s lower than the average both Democratic and Republican insiders predict it will be for the remainder of his term in National Journal’s Political Insiders poll this week.
Sixty-four Beltway Democrats offered what they believe will be Bush’s job approval rating over the next two-and-a-half years and averaged 37 percent. The 71 GOP respondents put the president 5 points higher, with an average response of 42 percent.
One Democrat who guessed that the president would hover at 32 percent said, “Bush has virtually nowhere to go but up, but [he] has shown no capacity to get there.” And a Republican whose guess was 38 percent said, “Given the present arrogance of this White House and president, he’ll be lucky to break 40.”
I guess you have to go some to beat Warren Harding, but it appears Bush is up to the task. My contention is that if the president tanks completely, it won’t be the largely spineless Democrats who do it. As with Nixon in 74, Republicans will begin getting squeamish about their own election chances and jump the bones of an unpopular president. It’s been happening for some time right now. Moderate Republicans are pretty much gone from the fold and the “God is my co-pilot” degenerates on the religious right are angry at him because he won’t speak out strongly on a constitutional amendment on gay marriage and hasn’t really said much of anything about abortion.
Fear not, however. Hillary wants to be president and the denizens of darkness will soon have us up to our ears with negative coverage designed to distract us. Bill and Hill are red meat; and bring up sex, well, you’ve probably got enough material to fill FOX news for a good five to six months.
