Thank you to all the brave senators who voted to defeat the so-called budget resolution that contained a provision for drilling in ANWR. By insisting that the ridiculous end-run tossed at them like spoiled produce by Sen. Ted Stevens at the last minute be removed from the spending bill, they showed remarkable integrity. In the case of Florida’s own Bill Nelson, the only Democrat to hold statewide office, it took true grit to risk being labeled anti-military in his re-election bid next year, when Republicans will be throwing all the wilted lettuce and squishy tomatoes they’ve got at him and will no doubt try to spin this into something it wasn’t. Thanks Bill, for always being counted on to do the right thing.
