Trump’s Congress Address Drew Smaller Audience than Obama’s

Hollywood Reporter: “The event predictably topped the night’s few other telecasts, grossing just more than 48 million viewers on 11 networks airing coverage between 9 and 10:15 p.m. ET. On par with early metered market stats, a cumulative 27.8 overnight rating among households, it’s still off from President Barack Obama’s first joint sessions meeting — or even his first State of the Union.”

A CNN instant poll last night found that 57% of those who watched President Trump’s address to Congress had a “very positive” reaction to Trump’s speech. In contrast, 68% gave former President Obama a “very positive” reaction to his first joint session, compared to 66% for former president George W. Bush.

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll finds President Trump’s inaugural message “is resonating with voters, refuting the idea that Trump bungled his first speech as commander in chief … with 49% of those who watched or heard about the speech saying it was excellent or good, and just 39% rating it as only fair or poor.” “Sixty-five percent of those surveyed reacted positively to the ‘America First’ message, the cornerstone of the Trump campaign and governing posture. Americans are looking for Trump to put his slogan into action: 61% said they agreed with Trump’s plan that the federal government should ‘buy American and hire American.’”
