But such complaints have quickly snowballed into a full-blown political crisis for the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey,” the New York Times reports. “Turks have been hit with runaway inflation — now officially more than 48 percent — for several months, and criticism is growing even from Mr. Erdogan’s own allies as he struggles to lift the country out of an economic crisis.“

Number of people Turkey has formally arrested in connection with last month’s failed coup attempt against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government, Reuters reports. Another 6,000 are still being processed and another 7,668 people are under investigation. Turkey has detained, removed or suspended tens of thousands of people in the judiciary, military, police, public service and elsewhere over alleged links with the abortive July 15 putsch.
