GOP Leader Boehner Blames Military for Iraq Fiasco

Here we have the double standard in American politics writ large. Sen. John Kerry is misinterpreted when he says that Pres. Bush’s stupidity got us stuck in Iraq and it leads the news.

Conversely, Republican House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Tobacco) means what he says when he blames the quagmire in Iraq on military leaders, rather than President Bush or his secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld, and his comments barely make a blip:

In an interview Wednesday on CNN, Boehner said, “Let’s not blame what’s happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.”

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer replied, “But he’s in charge of the military.”

“The fact is, the generals on the ground are in charge, and he works closely with them and the president,” Boehner, an Ohio Republican, said.

Katherine Harris Planning Revenge With Tell-All Book

Look out, Republicans. Katherine Harris, abandoned by almost every office-holding GOoPer at the state and national level in her race for the U.S. Senate, plans to get the last laugh. Evidently she’s been filling the hours left unexpectedly free by the all no-shows at campaign stops with a more productive activity: cackling gleefully, frothing at the mouth, and making notes.

In blood, for all we know.

“I’ve been writing it all year,” she says. She smiles and cocks her head as if she’s letting you in on a secret. “It’s going to be a great book.”

Katherine Harris, who is trying to become a U.S. senator, says she is writing a tell-all about the many people who have wronged her. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to: the Republican leaders who didn’t want her to run, the press that has covered her troubled campaign, and the many staffers who have quit her employ, whom she accuses of colluding with her opponent.

“I’ve been writing it all year,” she says. She smiles and cocks her head as if she’s letting you in on a secret. “It’s going to be a great book.”

Is anyone besides me somehow flashing back on Kathy Bates in the movie “Misery?”

It’s doubtful the book will contain memories from former Harris staffers, such as this classic from strategist Ed Rollins, one of the earliest to recognize Harris is looney.

Rollins said Harris, who has compared herself to the biblical Esther, once told him that God wanted her to become a senator. ”Maybe God wants you to run because he wants Bill Nelson to be senator,” Rollins said he told her.

Or this lol tidbit:

Before Jim Dornan became the first of three campaign managers to quit, he programmed his cellphone to play the theme song from The Exorcist when Harris called.

Annals of Gay Republicans

Is that a pistol in your pants, pilgrim?

This photo of John Wayne is authentic and has not been photoshopped.

To the Duke’s credit, hotpants were very stylish. Unfortunately, however, they didn’t come into fashion for a decade or two after this photo was taken — and they have never really been that hot on men.

Okay, I’m not saying John Wayne was gay — just that he dressed that way from time to time.

Bushit Floats: Pres Says He’ll Keep Cheney and Rumsfeld Through End of Term

“The good thing about Vice President Cheney’s advice is, you don’t read about it in the newspaper after he gives it,” the president said.

It’s the incompetence, stupid:

President Bush said Wednesday he wants Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney to remain in his administration until the end of his presidency…

Democrats and Republicans alike have called for Rumsfeld’s resignation, arguing he has mishandled the war in Iraq where more than 2,800 members of the U.S. military have died since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. Cheney has faced sharp criticism for his hardline views and is viewed favorably by only about a third of Americans in polls. Bush said that “both men are doing fantastic jobs.”

And this:

He said he valued Cheney’s advice and judgment. “The good thing about Vice President Cheney’s advice is, you don’t read about it in the newspaper after he gives it,” the president said.

Bush credited Rumsfeld with overseeing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while overhauling the military. “I’m pleased with the progress we’re making,” the president said. He replied in the affirmative if he wanted Rumsfeld and Cheney to stay with him until the end.

Of course, just the other day President Bush said he knew the American people weren’t satisfied with the progress in Iraq, and that he wasn’t satisfied.

Constituent Who Was Assaulted by Sen. Allen’s Goons Will Sue

HuffPo headline for this story read: “SEN ALLEN’S CAMPAIGN IMPLODES…AGAIN…”

I spent four years in the Marine Corps. I’ll be damned if I’ll let my country be taken from me by thugs that are afraid of taking
responsibility for themselves.
–Mike Stark

My name is Mike Stark. I am a law student at the University of Virginia, a marine, and a citizen journalist. Earlier today at a public event, I was attempting to ask Senator Allen a question about his sealed divorce record and his arrest in the 1970s, both of which are in the public domain. His people assaulted me, put me in a headlock, and wrestled me to the ground. Video footage is available here, from an NBC affiliate.

I demand that Senator Allen fire the staffers who beat up a constituent attempting to use his constitutional right to petition his government. I also want to know why Senator Allen would want his staffers to assault someone asking questions about matters of public record in the heat of a political campaign. Why are his divorce records sealed? Why was he arrested in the 1970s? And why did his campaign batter me when I asked him about these questions.

George Allen defends his support of the Iraq war by saying that our troops are defending the ideals America stands for. Indeed, he says our troops are defending our very freedom. What kind of country is it when a Senator’s constituent is assaulted for asking difficult and uncomfortable questions? What freedoms do we have left? Maybe we need to bring the troops home so that they can fight for freedom at George Allen’s campaign events. Demanding accountability should not be an offense worthy of assault.

I will be pressing charges against George Allen and his surrogates later today. George Allen, at any time, could have stopped the fray. All he had to do was say, “This is not how my campaign is run. Take your hands off that man.” He could have ignored my questions. Instead he and his thugs chose violence. I spent four years in the Marine Corps. I’ll be damned if I’ll let my country be taken from me by thugs that are afraid of taking responsibility for themselves.

It just isn’t the America I know and love. Somebody needs to take a stand against those that would bully and intimidate their fellow citizens. That stand begins right here, right now.

Scarborough: Katherine Harris’s Friends Think She Is ‘Delusional,’ Drunk or ‘Mentally Imbalanced’ over WH Rejection

Friends and former aids have called her delusional, suggested that she had a drinking problem or became mentally imbalanced when rejected time and again by the White House.

The corpse is not yet cold bu “Average Joe” Scarborough has written Katherine Harris’ political epitaph:

[As] the 2006 election season approached, Harris was still a political leper. GOP leaders in Washington and Tallahassee tried to talk other political figures into running against their former friend.

But everyone, including me, said no. That left Republican leaders with no other choice but to beg Harris to drop out of the race.

Staff members quit, fundraising dried up and GOP leaders mourned. But Katherine kept marching on. Even today I really think she believes that her driving ambition to be a United States Senator will be realized. But in that dream, Katherine Harris is alone.

Friends and former aids have called her delusional, suggested that she had a drinking problem or became mentally imbalanced when rejected time and again by the White House. I just think she’s mad as hell that she put her political neck on the line for the man whose White House would spend the next six years trying to do her in.

They succeeded, and because of it, Katherine Harris will be destroyed at the polls next week. And even the blind ambition of a once-bright political star will not change that fact.

Rangel: Cheney Is ‘a Real S.O.B.’

Rep. Charlie Rangel of New York, ranking member on Ways and Means:

“He’s such a real son of a bitch, he just enjoys a confrontation,” Rangel fumed, describing himself as “warm and personable.” Rangel said Cheney may need to go to “rehab” for “whatever personality deficit he may have suffered.”

“When you have those sorts of problems, you’re supposed to seek help,” Rangel advised. “He ac- knowledged that he has problems with communication.”

Rangle would become chairman if the Dems win the House. Could be fun!

Speaking of Chickenhawks, Where Is Mark Foley?

Mark Foley, the GOP chickenhawk of a different feather, checked into the Sierra Tucson Treatment Center in Arizona on Oct. 1, just two days after he resigned from Congress in disgrace.

His stay was to have been 30 days, which means he should have been out of there yesterday.

If former Rep. Foley has been released from rehab, can we assume that our Liberal Media will let us know?

UPDATE:

Thanks to Kewalo, who commented below, we now know that:

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley has extended his 30-day stay at a pricey rehab center in Arizona, according to acquaintances.

Reporting this new development tonight, Keith Olbermann wagered that Foley would leave rehab the day after the elections next week, Nov. 8.

It’s Chickenhawk Season Again

And as to Dear Leader himself, while men like Sen. Kerry went to Vietnam to fight for the United States, George W. Bush was laying about in Texas and Alabama, drinking, doing coke and chasing women.

The chickenhawks are back. Rightwingers who never served in the military are puffing up their chests and squawking about Sen. John Kerry’s faux pas on military intelligence on Monday.

Kerry told a college crowd that if they didn’t study and get smart, they might grow up to become president and do something stupid like getting a great nation stuck in a senseless war. Kerry mangled the statement, however, and now the chickenhawk chorus is accusing Kerry of telling the students that if they do not pursue their education they could end up stuck in the military.

Of course, John Kerry went to college and served in the military, with distinction. He is, in fact and by definition, a hero.

Now would be a good time to refresh their memories about the military service, or rather, lack thereof, of their own glorious leaders:

  • VP Dick Cheney – several deferments, by marriage and timely fatherhood.
  • Karl Rove, occasional Deputy Chief of Staff and alleged full time smear artist, escaped the draft and did not serve
  • Secretary of State and former NSA Condaleeza Rice – did not serve
  • Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist – did not serve.
  • Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert – did not serve.
  • Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay – did not serve.
  • [Comedian] Rush Limbaugh – did not serve
  • Sean Hannity – did not serve
  • Ann Coulter – did not serve
  • Bill O’Reilly – did not serve

Also did not serve:

  • White House Press Secretary Tony Snow
  • RNC Chair Ken Mehlman
  • White House chief of staff Josh Bolten
  • Our favorite GOP 2008 presidential nominee, Newt Gingrich
  • Not-my-America’s-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
  • Every Gop’s favorite Dem, Sen. Joe Lieberman
  • Fox News anchor Brit Hume
  • Fox News chief Roger Ailes

And as to Dear Leader himself, while men like Sen. Kerry went to Vietnam to fight for the United States, George W. Bush was laying about in Texas and Alabama, drinking, doing coke and chasing women.

Anyone who knows otherwise should prove it. A $50,000 reward has been available since September 2004 to anyone who could substantiate young Bush’s claim that he fulfilled his military service. Two other rewards, one for $10,000 and another for $1,000, have also never been collected.

When they swiftboat John Kerry and Rep. John Murtha over their genuine service records, they are swiftboathing all military heroes.

Macaca Brownshirts Assault Another Virginia Constituent

First, Republican Sen. George Allen called one of his Viriginia constitutents a “macaca,” which is a racial slur from Allen’s mother’s home country in Africa. Yesterday, the senator’s hired goons went after a Virginia voter, a liberal blogger named Mike Stark, who demanded that the senator unseal documents related to his divorce.

The divorce documents are said to reveal that Sen. Allen spat on his first wife, and it was Stark’s question, “Did you spit on your wife, that unhinged Sen. Allen’s GOP goons.
