Mnuchin the Noodge
Cutting taxes — that’s what tax reform is for —
An assertion the Treasury Secretary can’t ignore.
Though about who gets cuts,
Steve Mnuchin ifs, ands and buts,
And he won’t say that the middle class won’t pay more.
Nearly Half of Both Parties Believe in the ‘Deep State’
45%
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that 48% of Americans believe in the concept of a deep state — i.e. “military, intelligence and government officials who try to secretly manipulate government policy” — and 35% dismiss it as a conspiracy theory. The belief is very bipartisan. While 45% of Republicans believe it exists — perhaps believing it is undermining Trump even as we speak — 46% of Democrats also believe it exists — perhaps hoping it is undermining Trump even as we speak.
Trump Still Has His Voters
93%
A new University of Virginia Center for Politics poll of Trump voters shows his approval rating at 93% with these voters, though just 42% “strongly approve” while 51% “somewhat approve.”
If Election Were Today, Most Wouldn’t Vote for Trump
55%
A new Fox News poll finds that just 36% of voters say they would vote to re-elect President Trump if the 2020 election were today, compared to 55% who would vote for someone else. In contrast, 52% said they’d vote to re-elect Barack Obama eight years ago, while just 31% said they’d vote for someone else.
Trump Still Stalling on Taxes
“The president has no intention. The president has released plenty of information, and I think has given more financial disclosure than anybody else. I think the American population has plenty of information.”
— Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, quoted by the Washington Post, on whether President Trump will release his tax returns.
