Romney Falsely Accuses Obama of Corruption – Fact Checkers Say It’s a Lie, So Mitt Doubles Down by Using the Lie in an Ad
On May 31, Mitt Romney went to the site of the Solyndra Plant in California for the express purpose of using the failed green-energy development company as the background to lie about the Obama administration:
ROMNEY: “An independent inspector general looked at this investment (Solyndra) and concluded that the administration had steered money to friends and family—to campaign contributors.”
Accusing the president and his administration of corruption was a vicious lie. It is not true that an inspector general said anything of the sort.
Later, when pressed to cite the source for this lie, the Romney campaign was quoting a Newsweek article by Peter Schweizer, but this citation is fatally flawed. First, the piece in Newsweek was not a article, it was an excerpt from the book “Throw Them All Out,” a Coulteresque right-wing propaganda screed by Schweizer, a former foreign policy adviser for Sarah Palin (!) and speech-writing consultant for the George W. Bush administration, who is currently a fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution.
Romney’s lie about the Solyndra investigation has been disproved and disputed by every media source that bothered to look into it. However, at least in part because this fact checking has been censored by right-wing media, the Romney turned the lie into a television ad which it is running in swing states with impunity. Here is the transcript for the false ad:

Most Union Members Would Vote for Obama

Of union workers who are registered to vote would support Barack Obama, while 35% would vote for Mitt Romney, according to Gallup. Workers who are not union members tilt toward Romney over Obama, 48% to 44%.
George W. Bush, the Most Unpopular President Ever, Now Also Holds Title as the Most Unpopular Living Ex-President
The fact that George W. Bush left office as the most unpopular president in the history of presidential polling explains why Mitt Romney is loathe to mention Bush, the most recent Republican president, by name. In speeches, Romney and his surrogates refer to Bush euphemistically as Pres. Obama’s “predecessor.”
A new poll from CNN/ORC finds that while Bush’s popular has risen about 10 percentage points since he left office, at 43 percent approval/54 percent disapproval, he also holds the title of most unpopular living former president.
Former Pres. Jimmy Carter, the ex-president Republicans most like to disparage, has an approval rating of 54 percent.
Like Most Neocons, Mitt Romney Avoided the Draft During Vietnam
In the 1960s, like most high-profile neocons — Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol, John Bolton and their cheerleaders like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly — Mitt Romney avoided serving in the Vietnam War. Like Cheney, Romney sought and received multiple deferments. Cheney had five; Romney had four. (Like George Bush, John Bolton served in the National Guard, which was all but a guarantee against service overseas in those days.)
But unlike his fellow draft-dodging neocons, Romney has a record of lying about his deferments:
Though an early supporter of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service at the height of the fighting after high school by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, according to Selective Service records. They included college deferments and a 31-month stretch as a “minister of religion” in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused. The country was cutting troop levels by the time he became eligible for the draft, and his lottery number was not called.

The New York Times reports that the Romneys are pissing off their liberal California neighbors in the one-time right-wing beachside enclave of La Jolla. For one thing, the Romneys are super-sizing the house they bought four years ago — turning it into a McMansion complete with the infamous car elevator. For another, Romney, who has appointed himself leader of the national gay-hate movement, seems to have been unaware that he bought property in one of San Diego’s ritziest, gay-friendliest neighborhoods.
From the perspective of the California mindset, however, the worst offense of all is that Romney has appointed himself head narc on the beach in front of his house, a self-appointment that apparenlty entitles him to accost townsfolk and stop them from enjoying a joint or a beer at the ocean:

Number of fundraisers President Obama has appeared at since announcing his re-election bid last year — nearly double the number that his predecessor George W. Bush had attended by this point in his re-election campaign. Including this week’s fundraising trip to California, President Obama “will have spent eight of 24 weekdays during the past month — that’s a third of them — on the road and collecting cash,” Politico reports.

Q: Can I ask you about the California fundraisers, in particular? The President is getting a lot of heat over cavorting with showbiz types. Rush Limbaugh is referring to him as Barack Kardashian, can you believe. What is your response to that? (Laughter.)
CARNEY: Two words — Donald Trump. Next question.
