Watching Mitt Romney giggle as he “apologized” on Fox News for an episode in prep school in which he and a gang of boys chased down a kid who had bleached his hair and cut off his bangs, Rachel Maddow noticed that Romney has a habit of reacting with mirth to stories like this. He also giggled when he was confronted about forcing the family dog to ride in a kennel strapped to the car roof on a 12-hour vacation many years ago.

“That the president has chosen today, when LGBT Americans are mourning the passage of Amendment One, to finally speak up for marriage equality is offensive and callous,” said Log Cabin Republicans president R. Clarke Cooper in a statement. “Log Cabin Republicans appreciate that President Obama has finally come in line with leaders like Vice President Dick Cheney on this issue, but LGBT Americans are right to be angry that this calculated announcement comes too late to be of any use to the people of North Carolina, or any of the other states that have addressed this issue on his watch.”

“This administration has manipulated LGBT families for political gain as much as anybody, and after his campaign’s ridiculous contortions to deny support for marriage equality this week he does not deserve praise for an announcement that comes a day late and a dollar short.”

Hold on there R., that amendment passed in N.C. by more than a 60 percent margin. Do you really believe that if President Obama had endorsed gay marriage a day sooner and a dollar more it would have changed the minds of any of those benighted Tarheels? Really?

I give my full support to Mitchell Romney. He has the makings of a great dictator. He is incredibly wealthy, but pays no taxes. And it’s not much of a leap to go from firing people to firing squads, and from putting pets on the top of a car to putting political dissidents on top of them.

Mitt Romney’s nearly 50-point lead over President Obama among white evangelical Protestant voters, according to a new PRRI/RNS Religion News survey. Key finding: “The survey also finds that even among the nearly half (49%) of evangelical voters who say that Romney’s religious beliefs are different than their own, Romney still holds a 3-to-1 lead over Obama (67% vs. 22%). Among all voters, however, Obama leads Romney, (47% vs. 38%).”
