Christie Almost as Unpopular as Palin for GOP Nominee

44%

Of Republicans would not like to see New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie run for the Republican nomination for president, while just 29% would, according to a new CBS poll. But 44% say no. Only former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s numbers are more underwater: 30% of Republicans say they’d like to see her run, but 59% disagree. In contrast, 59% of Republicans would like to see Mitt Romney jump into the 2016 race, while 26% believe he should stay out.

Anchorage Police Release 911 Recording from Palins’ Drunken Brawl

The Anchorage, Alaska, Police Department released 911 recordings yesterday from the Palin family’s drunken brawl at a party on Sept. 6.

It’s unclear why the Anchorage PD waited nearly two months to release the recordings, but the ultimate effect is to drag this unsavory story about the Republican Party’s 2008 vice presidential nominee into another news cycle. (And the next time you see John McCain holding forth on “Meet the Press,” keep in mind that selecting Palin to be vice president of the United States was the most important decision he ever made.)

TPM collected a few of the more interesting moments from the transcript:

Police Report Offers New Details on Palin’s Drunken White-on-White Brawl

As we noted earlier, we have an unwritten policy against taking the bait when Sarah Palin begs for attention by making stupid, inflammatory statements in public forums. Not that it matters much if we do. The writers and editors in what she calls the “lamestream” media apparently find her “pull my finger” tactics irresistible.

But now that she is embroiled in a scandal as a result of her family’s drunken brawling at a party on Sept. 6, coverage of the white-trash folks that Sen. John McCain sought to install in the Naval Observatory, the vice presidental residence in Washington, is fair game. As Talking Point Memo’s Josh Marshall put it:

The Violence, The Booze, The Out-of-Wedlock Births, the Snowmobiles: Pity the state of the white family in the 21st century. The official Anchorage PD report on the Palin Clan white on white violence incident is out.

TPM lists seven new revelations from the police report that suggest that the Palins were even more inebriated and white-trashy than we knew:

Bachmann Wants to Take on Clinton, But She’s Palin by Comparison

Michele Bachmann lecturing on foreign policy makes Sarah Palin sound like Dean Acheson. Hillary Clinton is one of the most admired and respected public figures throughout the world, who continues to prove her knowledge and intellect on foreign policy matters. There is simply no comparison.

— Adrienne Elrod, spokeswoman for pro-Clinton group Correct the Record, told Politico, responding to Bachmann’s assertion that “There isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. She will continue foursquare … and put forward Barack Obama’s policy in a third and fourth term.”

There’s Still Time for Republican Crazies to Emerge Before Midterms

I have to give the Republicans credit for one thing in this election cycle. They’ve been able to keep their crazies quiet. But the big question is: Will some GOP crazy talk seep out between now November 4? In the words of Sarah Palin, I’d have to say, ‘You betcha.’
