In Foreign Policy Debate, Romney Displays Ignorance of Geography of the Persian Gulf, Site of Two U.S. Wars in the Past 20 Years

Apparently, Herman “Uzbekstan-stan-stan” Cain helped with Mitt Romney’s geography prep going into the presidential debate on foreign policy last night — and it was not the first time he’d gotten the geography of the Middle East wrong:

In June Conference Call, Romney Told Small-Business Owners to Tell Their Employees How to Vote
On June 6, Romney led a conference call with support from the über-conservative National Federation of Independent Business and — to cut to the chase — urged the bosses on the call to persuade their employees to vote for him in the upcoming election.
“I hope you make it very clear to your employees what you believe is in the best interest of your enterprise and therefore their job and their future in the upcoming elections,” said Romney in a recording obtained by In These Times. “Nothing illegal about you talking to your employees about what you believe is best for the business, because I think that will figure into their election decision, their voting decision and of course doing that with your family and your kids as well.”
Another Romney Lie: Obama Has Not ‘Doubled’ the Federal Deficit, He Has Reduced It by Billions of Dollars

In the presidential debate, Mitt Romney said, “The president said he’d cut the deficit in half. Unfortunately, he doubled it.”
Unsurprisingly, the notion that the deficit has doubled over the last three years is a lie:
Late Friday afternoon, the Treasury Department published the official report on the U.S. budget deficit for the most recent fiscal year: $1.089 trillion. While that’s obviously still a very large budget shortfall, the deficit is $200 billion smaller than it was last year, and is nearly $300 billion smaller than when President Obama took office.
Even Politifact agrees, FWIW.
UPDATED: Obama Supporters, Beware of Purported Anti-Romney, Anti-Mormon Video, ‘Who’s the Boss?’
Update and Correction: I have been in touch with a producer of the video this afternoon and have learned that my suspicions about the motives behind it were unfounded. He told me he is a supporter of Pres. Obama.
He also told me, via email, “Really, my biggest desire is that it gets people discussing the issue — and whether it’s a fair question and whether it needs to be asked. Just having the issue discussed and having daylight shined on it is a victory…”
I have posted the YouTube video here now, in case you did not see it before.

Look Out Mitt, Obama’s Got His Groove Back

Romney, Who Hunkered Down in France During Vietnam, on Former SEAL Who Died in Benghazi: ‘They Rushed to Go Help, That’s the American Way, We Go Where We’re Needed’

During the Vietnam War, Mitt Romney protested the protesters one year and then headed to France the next. While students who involuntary enlistment he actively supported died in the mud in Vietnam, he lived in a chateau in Paris and tooled around France on a bike trying to convince the French to give up coffee and wine.
Now he cites the courage of a former Navy SEAL who died in a terror attack claiming that “They didn’t hunker down where they were in safety. They
rushed there to go help. This is the American way. This is the American way. We go where there’s trouble. We go where we’re needed.”
But you didn’t go there, Mitt. You hunkered down in France.
