Majority Does Not Want a Government Shutdown
65%
A new Politico/Morning Consult poll finds that 65% of voters say that Congress should “take all necessary steps to avoid a government shutdown,” a warning sign for lawmakers who might be toying with the idea of holding up funding to influence policy. Just 17% of registered voters say they could stomach a shutdown “if it helps them achieve their policy goals.”
Trump’s Numbers Are Down Across the Board
35%
A new Quinnipiac poll finds President Trump has a negative 35% to 57% job approval rating. In addition, voters opinions of some of Trump’s personal qualities are mostly negative:
Said pollster Tim Malloy: “Trump continues to struggle, even among his most loyal supporters. Many of them would be hard pressed to see even a sliver of a silver lining in this troubling downward spiral.”
Cummings: Bannon Is a White Supremicist
“In a way he would be pleased to have seen the first African-American elected president, to have seen many doors opened for people like me and others who now have opportunities that would not have had them back then. But at the same time, when we see a guy like Bannon, who is, as far as I’m concerned, a white supremacist-type person, sitting in the White House — sitting in the White House — and I’m paying his salary, I think he would be very disappointed.”
— Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who said this morning that Martin Luther King, Jr. “would be very disappointed” by the political realities of 2017 and especially by the presence of Steve Bannon — who he described as a “white supremacist-type” — in the White House, Politico reports.
Nunes Accidentally Tells the Truth
There’s a story… that the Trump administration asked me not to invite Sally Yates and not have a hearing, which is 100% accurate, I mean inaccurate.”
— House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
Senate Democrats Reach Filibuster Threshold
41
Senate Democrats “appeared to secure the votes necessary to filibuster the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch, sending the body hurtling toward a bitter partisan confrontation later this week,” the New York Times reports.
A Sissy for Sissi
Trump always thought that Obama was a wussy,
That a man’s man just reaches out for some pussy.
But in the presence of REAL power,
Trump turns into an oozy fawner,
Like when he meets a REAL dictator like Egypt’s el-Sissi.
