Florida Republican Legislators Give Themselves “Absolute Shield”

If you noticed an avalanche of lawsuits over your decisions, would you:

a) Take a moment to consider objectively what you’ve been doing and adjust your actions going forward, or

b) Pass legislation that says you can no longer be sued.

If you’re a Florida lawmaker, you will pick option B in a heartbeat. And so, Florida’s super-majority Republican legislature, facing court challenges to ALEC-written laws, is now shielding its members from giving testimony or depositions explaining their intentions.

Republicans on the panel [committee] said the move was necessary because more and more groups – teachers, unions, and others – are filing lawsuits against the Legislature and attempting to compel lawmakers and their staff to testify about the “legislative intent” behind what they’ve passed…

Helen Radkey, who has often contributed to Pensito Review on issues related to the Mormon Church, was interviewed by Lawrence O’Donnell this week about the latest findings from her research into the controversial practice of Mormons baptizing dead people.

In the 1990s, Radkey discovered that Mormons were routinely baptizing survivors of the Holocaust — in other words, they were unilaterally Christianizing people who had been slaughtered because they were not Christians. After they’d been found out, Mormon leaders promised that the practice of baptizing Holocaust survivors would end. However, it did not. In fact, in her most recent findings, Radkey discovered that the late Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal — for whom the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles is named –had received posthumous rites, as had relatives of Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel.

Disgraced former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is fundamentally devoid of the temperament or seriousness required to be president. But he has managed to survive in his quixotic bid for the presidency based on on two factors. First, his campaign has been funded almost entirely by two Super PAC donations totaling $11 million from an Israel-firster, casino owner Sheldon Adelson, and, secondly, he has racked up approval ratings by using the 19 or so debates so far to toss out red meat for the base by attacking Pres. Obama, the other candidates and the corporate media.

The fact that there haven’t been any debates in a while is starting to have an effect on the Gingrich campaign. Recent polling puts him in fourth place among the four candidates. Now the campaigns of other three candidates — Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul — have made a joint decision that could spell the end for the Gingrich campaign:
