A new ad from U.S. Senate candidate Gov. Charlie Crist (Fla.-NPA) spotlights the questionable spending practices of self-proclaimed fiscal conservative Tea Party Republican opponent Marco Rubio. The ad focuses on Rubio’s credit card problems, which should be leading Florida news but, since the talking points aren’t matching up to Rubio’s golden boy image, seem so far to be non-issues.

We’d like some answers about Rubio’s spending habits, and in particular, to find out if the reason he fought so hard to keep his full credit card records from becoming public is because of all the travel they show for his legislative aide, healthcare lobbyist Amber Stoner. Stoner, as has been noted, had a habit while Rubio served in the Florida House of either accompanying him or arriving in the same cities and resorts as he did within a day. We’d also like to see if Rubio’s wife, former cheerleader Jeanette C. Dousdebes-Rubio, joined the pair on those trips.

Rubio is set to face his two opponents, Crist and U.S. Rep Kendrick Meek (Fla.-D) in a debate on Wednesday, Oct. 6 moderated by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. ABC is soliciting questions for the candidates, and we submitted ours:

We need to know more about Marco Rubio’s RPOF credit card records, specifically about the travel for his aide, Amber Stoner. Rubio can’t just claim to be fiscally responsible. He has to show some evidence, and these records seem to fly in the face of that.

Please submit your own question to Rubio (and the other two candidates). ABC requires a name and address, but you don’t have to live in Florida to take an interest in this race. Senators affect everyone, and you have a right to answers from Rubio no matter where you vote.

The ABC debate comes just as Rubio’s poll numbers are showing some wear. Two new polls show Crist moving up, with Zogby putting Rubio at 39 percent, Crist at 33, and Meek at 18. Even the Florida Chamber posted similar results, with Rubio at 40, Crist at 33 and Meek at 16. As a reminder, in the three-way race all that has to happen for Rubio not to be the next senator from Florida is for him to get less than 33 percent of the vote. Please help by pressuring Rubio to help us understand his spending.
