Not everyone is thrilled by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s announcement that he will continue his run for the U.S. Senate as No Party Affiliation (NPA) rather than Republican. In his news conference announcing the decision, he assured partisans he would keep his personal voter registration within the GOP fold. This tiny gesture doesn’t seem to be enough to appease many of his 15,376 Facebook friends, some of whom were taking the news poorly judging by comments (unedited) they left on the governor’s wall.
- Charlie Crist is showing himself to be a classless pig. When figured he couldn’t win against a bright young star like Marco Rubio, he broke his pledge to only run as a Republican (to Chris Wallace). He’s upset he can’t win so he’s taking his toys to play in another sandbox. People will see through this blatantly transparent decision to put personal ambition above what is right for the country.
- What a wimp charlie mr.linguine spine changed party because he was getting destroyed in the poles and he still has no chance,SO VOTE RUBIO,VOTE RUBIO!
- Sorry Charlie. You lost our Votes a long time ago when you sold out and hugged Obama. I agree with Mike, give back the money to those that thought you were a Republican! You proved now that you were a RINO, or should we call you “Benedict Specter”?
- Please explain why you still have yourself listed as a Republican on here? You bolted when you saw the going was getting rough so you could further YOUR plans, wants and needs instead.
- Arrogant and a turn-coat! You will not get my vote and I voted for you for Governor – my bad
- JUST DROP OUT, you are a self serving ass! and you will F the republicans this fall…….THANKS
- Charlie you are such a sissy. Take your ball and go home. Its NOT about you , its about defeating bad legislation from BO. You bend over to often!
- You are an EGOMANIAC. A fools chase and I want my money back!
But the reaction wasn’t all bad. Crist won the undying allegiance of Florida’s teachers with his recent veto of a Republican bill that would have upended public education, and they seem to be sticking with him.
- Gov Crist, I know this wasn’t an easy decision, but you made the correct decision and we are with you 100%. On to Victory in November.
- I couldn’t be there but I was cheering from my living room! You have my vote Charlie. This teacher will not go back on her promise! Bravo on off-shore drilling too!
- Charlie Crist – He’s NOT a Bush Family Toady. Thank goodness.
- I am a young Republican with a heart (pro-food stamps, pro-quality public school education) who strongly supports you, Governor. What you did by vetoing the SB6 which would have hurt mentally disabled school children was courageous, ethical, and shows you have the guts to stand up for what is right, even at the cost of your own political career. God bless you for it! I will pray for your continued success. :D
Crist is now in a no-man’s land between FOX News, which gins up the Marco Rubio (Charlie’s former opponent in the Republican primary) Tea Party folks, and Democrats and independents with memories longer than his last veto. We remember Crist being against offshore drilling, then being for it, and now, with the worst oil spill in our country’s history looming, against it again. We have also come to see Charlie as a lot of his former Republicans now do, as a man who will do or say anything to get the next office. Unfortunately, Crist is not alone there and the idealistic tea baggers who think Rubio is the real conservative deal will probably get their hearts broken, just as many of Crist’s Republican supporters have.

They accuse Crist of putting his ambitions before his country, but that is the exact opposite of what he did and why they are angry at him. Crist’s main transgression is that he did those things he thought best for his state and the rather than running behind the GOP herd when unreason seized the party from the far right.
