Trump Pledges, Won’t Pledge, Doesn’t Pledge to Not End Mueller Investigation

“Well, I — I don’t pledge anything. But I will tell you, I have no intention of doing that. I think it’s a very unfair investigation because there was no collusion of any kind. There is no collusion. I don’t want to pledge. Why should I pledge to you? If I pledge, I’ll pledge. I don’t have to pledge to you. But I have — I have no intention of doing that.”

— President Trump, in an interview on 60 Minutes, on whether he would pledge not to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

Americans Split on Russia Investigation

49% to 45%

A new Washington Post-Schar School poll finds Americans are nearly split, 49% approving and 45% disapproving of the way special counsel Robert Mueller is handling the investigation into possible ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government. What’s more, 48% say the question of whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election is a “serious issue,” while an identical 48% say it’s “more of a distraction.”

Majority Think Mueller Will Find Impeachable Offenses

56%

A new Fox News poll finds that 56% think it’s likely that special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe will find President Trump committed criminal or impeachable offenses. And even though 64% feel confident Mueller is treating the White House fairly, 71% think it’s likely Trump will fire Mueller before the investigation is complete.

Public Maintains Confidence in Mueller

61%

A new Pew Research survey finds 61% of Americans say they are very or somewhat confident special counsel Robert Mueller will conduct a fair investigation. “While opinions about Mueller’s probe – and other issues related to Russia’s alleged election meddling – are divided along partisan lines, nearly half of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (46%) are very or somewhat confident Mueller will conduct a fair investigation. Democrats and Democratic leaners are overwhelmingly confident Mueller’s investigation will be fair (75% very or somewhat confident).”

Most Trust Mueller Investigation

57%

A new USA Today/Suffolk University poll finds that by wide margins, Americans are convinced that Russians meddled in the 2016 presidential election and that they will try it again. More than four in 10 believe Moscow’s interference affected the outcome of the election that put Donald Trump in the White House. A 58% majority say they have a lot or some trust in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, while a 57% majority say they have little or no trust in Trump’s denials.
